SGA - "Whispers"
I'm never quite sure how I'm going to like Team lite episodes, but I really enjoyed tonight's. More than I was expecting.
- Loved the feel of the episode, starting with the very beginning of the opener. But I enjoy that sort of Sleepy Hollow-esque sort of thing and I thought the feel was very complete and creepy. Especially when they added that noise the creatures made. ::shudder::
- If I'm perfectly honest, I was ready to dislike the new team. For no other reason than the fact that I'm annoyed at the way some of the writing and characters are handled. But I liked them. Quite a bit more than I thought I would. Though I don't like it when so many (four - ha! like that's a lot) characters are introduced because I want to catch everyone's name and usually end up missing a few. That was handled kind of badly. Here I missed everyone but Vega the first time through, and that's only because 1) I'd seen her before and 2) she was the last one named.
I was bummed they killed her. It made me worried that more of them would die. And then what's the point of introducing a new team if you're just going to kill all of them?
I really loved Sergeant Mehra, with the shooting and the competence and the gum. And the humor. Her bit about, "I just read something funny. And obvious" cracked me up.
When Porter disappeared and then later when she said she wanted to stay behind instead of going into the lab, I was worried she was up to something. But she wasn't, so it was all good.
Teldy...I liked her, but I'd like to see more of her. Which is apparently never going to happen what with SGA being cancelled and all.
- Mom and I had this conversation when John and Carson first met up with the team:
ME: John's uncomfortable because he's scared of girls.
MOM: And bugs, right?
ME: Yeah.
MOM: He must be really scared of girls with bugs then.
ME: And girly bugs.
MOM: So put a tutu on a beetle and he must go apeshit.
Mom also thought at one point (after Mehra's "obvious" comment) that we could have written the episode, since I kept pre-empting the lines. (Like when Vega got killed and creepy things showed up and Sheppard was all, "Crap.") Personally, I thought it was more a sign that I had something in common with the characters, that they were close to real human beings instead of cardboard blah characters. I mean, each of the women certainly had their own personality.
- John's cardio funk workout. Haha.
- Carson annoyed me to begin with and then he stopped about half-way through. ::shrug:: I like him, I do. But lately it's like one scene he'll just rub me the wrong way and the next scene I'll be over it. Maybe it was just the dialogue with Porter that got me. I don't know.
I did like that Carson was concerned about the role he'd had to play in the whole Michael problem, referencing all the way back to Hoff.
- I liked the bookended scenes with Rodney. And John always looks slightly funny to me when he's dressed in layers. Like he needs to be curled up on a couch somewhere with soup and a box of Kleenex.
- About the time John was setting up the trap at the well, I started wondering what Ronon would do in the situation. Then I realized I missed him. And Teyla.
- It was interesting seeing John operate with a group of people who aren't his team. Especially when he had that plan at the end. I wonder if he found himself missing Ronon, Teyla, and Rodney. Because at least in times of trouble, they're familiar.
Meanwhile, I was out taking pictures of the corn after dinner and thought the sky was really pretty.
