Project Runway - 5.02

Interesting challenge, though when Tim first said "green" fabric there was a fraction of a second where I thought they'd be working with fabric that was green. And then they changed things up a bit by sending the models to Mood. I kind of have to wonder about the models choosing some of the fabric that they did.

Mom told me a couple of days ago that Natalie Portman was going to be the guest judge, so I wasn't surprised. I like her quite a bit, and she had some intelligent things to say about the work she saw in front of her.

In no particular order:

Designs I liked: Blayne, Daniel, Emily, Jennifer, Kelli, Kenley, Stella, Suede, Terri

Borderline: Joe, Keith

Meh: Jerell, Korto, Leanne, Wesley

- I loved Tim's reaction to Korto's design when she told him the pleat-things were the outside of the dress. The way you could see him go from open, helpful body language to the crossed arms and the thinky-pose. With the added, "Oooh." Aw, Tim.

And seriously guys, when Tim says to edit you should listen! He's not talking just to hear his own voice.

- Blayne's I liked because it was a different color than the rest of the work up there. It popped. And was not crazy like last week.

- I was worried Daniel wouldn't finish his dress in time. He was really pushing it! But I really liked the end result, how it flowed and moved.

- Emily's was too short, but still cute and not whore-ish.

- Bravo's website has Jerell's dress labeled as Jennifer's. What put it into the "meh" category for me was the top. There was something weird going on with the fit around the bust, and it seriously looked like there was going to be some unfortunate slippage. I did like the color though. And the pattern on the sides of the skirt.

- Jennifer's was cute and fresh, flowy. On the mannequin I didn't think it would be. But it also didn't look like a cocktail dress. Not really an occasion kind of thing. I think it was the colors.

- Joe's design was fine, but it wasn't anything new. It was nice and clean, but I felt like I could go to a store and find something fairly similar on the rack.

- Keith's was nice, but a little too poofy.

- I have nothing to say about Kelli's dress except that I liked it. And I like that Kelli was going around, interacting with people. At least the one's closest to her.

- Ditto Kenley's design. Nice and clean. But the collar did remind me a little of Emily's collar last week. And a little of Daniel V's orchid dress.

- Korto's looked a bit like a rocket ship with those wing things on the sides. Maybe if she'd cut those down to be the same shape as the rest of them?

- I didn't think Leanne's was completely horrible. I liked the upper back part of it and the way the loops draped there.

- I was impressed with Stella's design. Though I kind of thought they should have styled the model's hair on the shoulder opposite the sleeve. I also enjoy listening to Stella talk for some reason. And when she puts her hair in her talking head reminds me of Vala's on SG-1.

I'm hoping she'll start to realize she can actually work well with things other than leather.

- Suede's was very cool. But he needs to STOP TALKING IN THIRD PERSON. I laughed when Leanne commented to him about it, and then during her talking head. Glad I'm not the only one!

Speaking of, I thought it was funny that once again Bravo circled the wrong percentage in their little cell phone quiz.

- Bonus Suede question: How is tulle organic?

- Terri's was adult and sleek. I liked the color.

- Wesley's was just a great big giant mess. Wow.

Hey, Tim's Take is back on the website! I don't think they did that last season. I always enjoy reading what Tim has to say after each episode.
