"Turn Left" & "The Seed"

Doctor Who - "Turn Left"
I love Donna Noble. I have for a while, but I just thought I'd get it out there. I like that in "The Runaway Bride" she starts off screechy and whiny and scared, just some woman that's been pulled into this crazy adventure and that by the end of it, things are starting to change a little for her. And now here she is stepping in front of a van because it's what she has to do. Because it will make things right.
I just have lots of love for her, in all of her ordinary brilliance. I'm proud of her.
And hey! It was nice to see Rose again. But how'd she get there? She sounded a bit different to me. Sort of mumbly, but not. It was weird for a bit. I really want to know what she's been up to in her universe. She looks older (duh, but I mean in more than just surface aging) and more serious, experienced.
I liked that she never gave her name. Very Doctor-like.
SGA - "The Seed"
I don't know what's wrong with me, but I am just not quite feeling the same SGA love right now. (Maybe part of the problem it's following DW and I'm really digging that right now.) I mean I love it, I do, but this episode was about the same place on the meh-scale as last week's for me. There were things that I liked - I even laughed out loud - but this probably won't be one I re-watch regularly.
- They explained what happened to Kanaan. I still think that handling is wonky, but considering they usually forget about the characters they bring back to Atlantis (Sora, that guy from "Condemned") I guess this is actually a step forward? That's kind of sad.
- I wonder why Keller was the first to show symptoms.
- Rodney's little line about "Sheppard's here and that makes all the difference" or whatever made me happy.
- Sheppard's "Woolsey wasn't the weirdest thing about that timeline" and the looks he was giving McKay and Keller and their reaction made me laugh. There should be fic where he realizes that the Keller situation is looking like the Katie Brown situation all over again and he better seize the moment (among other things) before that particular part of that timeline plays out.
- BECKETT: I've seen something like this before.
SHEPPARD: Where?
John asked about a half second after I did. It was the way he said it that made it great. Because really, where the hell are you going to see that sort of thing?
- Interesting to learn about how the Wraith hive ships are created. The whole thing was quite creepy and icky.
- It's funny how everyone looks a little different every season, a little older, but tonight Zelenka looked about the same as he did in "38 Minutes." Aw, Radek.
- When Ronon went to save Keller, cutting through the tendrils and things, I was reminded very much of Sleeping Beauty.
- John really has to learn that sometimes bed-rest is a good thing. Rodney should get right on that.
- Woolsey. I've always enjoyed Woolsey, even if I didn't necessarily like what he was doing or involved with. It's because I've loved Robert Picardo since Star Trek: Voyager. And I thought that tonight Woolsey made a decent start as commander. He likes order and not wasting resources and doing things by the book. He'll be an obstacle.
But I thought his behavior tonight showed that he can bend a little. I really liked two of the exchanges he had with Sheppard. First when Sheppard said that what they were doing wasn't exactly by the book and Woolsey told him it wouldn't happen often. Then at the end of the episode when Sheppard said, "Welcome to the Pegasus Galaxy" after Woolsey's whole, "If I can't trust the rules" thing. I'm really hoping we'll get some character growth. Please, writers, don't let me down!
- McKay. I had a lot of mixed feelings about Rodney. Or at least about his behavior. Why'd they send him in to talk with Keller? When did he get a bedside manner that wasn't ridiculously awkward? How far are they going to take Keller/McKay? They're cute and I like that she's having to change her opinion of him, but I still kind of like a world where actual pairings don't really exist on the show.
- I like when we get the team concerned for each other. Like Ronon and Rodney when Sheppard was dead for that brief moment. Really, I like team stuff. There should have been more. It was nice to see Teyla run around and do stuff. And I liked the scene between her and Rodney, though I was worried that Woolsey was going to take her knowledge of the ZPM and go on some horrible thing about "letting the aliens know too much about our technology." Glad he didn't, but it could still happen.
- And now Carson is on Earth. To bring back whenever they want. Convenient. But nice that he's no longer a popsicle. Oh, and I did think it was really sweet that Rodney was going and talking to him while he was frozen. Aww, Rodney.
Nathan Fillion is running around my head singing, "A man's gotta do what a maaaan's gotta do." It's fantastic. I want the music!
