THE OFFICE TONIGHT!
Granted, I'll probably watch it tomorrow, but still!
This morning I got up and the first thing I saw in my inbox was "Get five music downloads -- free from the Navy." It struck me as a little...strange. Are they desperate?
Went and got fingerprinted this afternoon. The cards are sitting with the rest of my application. When the officer was taking them we were talking and he said, "And now I have your prints." I almost said, "So much for my criminal career" but then thought maybe it wasn't really something to joke about.
I feel kind of bad that it's taking me so long to complete this application. And it really is because I'm dragging my feet. While I want to help out, teaching, even if it is just as a substitute, isn't really where I want to be spending my time.
Today I was going through stuff and was reminded of the game Riven, the second in the Myst series. I got into Myst through EB and, oh, was I pleased when I solved one of the puzzles she was just kind of dinking around on (the bit with the trees and pipes and directing waterflow). Then I discovered Riven on the Playstation and basically fell completely in love with the thing. If I had to choose a favorite game, that would probably be it. The story, the characters, the music, the sounds, the surroundings, all of it contributed to this overall experience for me that has stuck with me and given me fond memories. And today when I was reminded of all that, all I could think was that I want to experience something like that again. I want to find a game where the world is so complete I can just immerse myself in it for a little while, like having a book suck you in. Mostly, I just want another game like Riven. The sad thing being that I won't look at the newest Myst games because they started doing strange things with it after the third one.
But they are putting Myst out on DS which is a little odd, but I'm thinking about getting it because then it's just another portable distraction.

I'm a bit sore at the writers...

Date: 2008-04-11 10:25 pm (UTC)I couldn't believe Jim was ready to ditch Pam to save himself! And I thought it was funny any time Pam or Jim went to the bathroom to talk with the camera. I kept trying to picture how they'd fit in there.

oh pam, so smart! Also, jim leaving pam was very out of character.

Date: 2008-04-13 05:52 am (UTC)They should have done a real in-office episode and saved this one for next week or the week after. If the strike hadn't happened and this had followed an episode from the week before, I think it would have been better. But here it's almost like I've gotten in the mindset of "this is a new season" what with the wait being so long and as such I just feel like the first episode should have reflected that, gotten us reacquainted with everyone, y'know?

Date: 2008-04-13 06:05 am (UTC)Something that struck me about the characters was the fact that the writers seemed to have lost touch with them somehow... like they were trying to get to know them again-- so they turned them into extremes. Kind of scary the extremes they came up with... I mean QUIET ANDY?! WHAT?! except when he was singing along with hunter's song. that was brillz!
And I TOTALLY agree with your in office suggestion. I needed some Toby and Creed time. YES!
Not to mention they totally effed with my hope of screwing around with the Angela-Dwight-Andy affair... and the BABY!
But I had to love Angela slamming her cone into the side of his car.

Date: 2008-04-13 06:13 am (UTC)I could see that being the case. In which case, maybe it was best for them to try to find their footing again with a smaller group of characters instead of an entire office full. Except that Andy still got short-changed. :(
I want Toby and Stanley and Creed and Phylis and Kelly and Meredith and all of them. But I guess that's something to look forward to next week.
They could still screw around with the Love Triangle of DOOM. Er. I mean the Angela-Dwight-Andy affair.
OMG. I LOVED Angela slamming her cone into the side of Andy's car! LOVED. She had this slightly evil-happy look on her face and it was wonderful.
