Worked in Mattawa today. I had been worried about the drive down and back, but the roads were clear and the sun was shining and it was beautiful. When I locked up at five, I wished that I had my camera with me. The library's situated close to the side of a hill and walking out the back to find myself looking out over the valley toward the Columbia with the sun reflecting soft and pink off clouds and snow was a very nice experience.

The only bad part of the whole drive was the parking lot. Apparently no one from the city gets sent to plow it. Snow was drifted everywhere. I'm sure once a patron falls and the city gets sued they'll change their tune.

I'd never worked a whole Monday on my own before, technically I still haven't as one of the other subs stopped by to help out. Monday's are delivery day, which means we get items that have been requested or returned to other branches and the books that have been requested elsewhere get picked up for sorting and delivery. Today's was twice as big as usual, according to the delivery guy. So having someone else there to help shelve was really nice. Plus, I wasn't alone for most of the day.

Then the internet stopped working for half an hour, luckily after we got all the delivered stuff taken care of, and I was not happy at the prospect of doing everything by hand. And deal with a kid coming in and wanting a library card and having to say, "Sorry, but you're going to have to come back some other time." About ten minutes later it started working again, though, so that was a relief.

Because, really, how awful is it to have to turn someone away from a library?

Now I think I may actually go curl up with a book in bed because I'm tired and cannot sit here and read fic, much as I'd like to, while listening to people eat chips out of crinkly bags. It is distracting and I've been spoiled by the lovely silence I had for the last hour or so. Plus, if I don't go curl up with this book it will never be finished and I'll never be able to move on.
