This Mortal Coil
Dec. 7th, 2007 08:16 pmSGA - "This Mortal Coil"
While I really enjoyed tonight's episode (though, let's face it, I usually enjoy them) and thought it was solid and good, I also found it really predictable. The first mention of people not acting like themselves, Mom and I both said, "Not really Atlantis! Replicators!" When John healed? "Replicators!" Another life sign? "Elizabeth!" And back in "The Seer" we figured the Atlantis that got destroyed wouldn't be the real one. So, like I said, while I found a lot of it predictable, I still really enjoyed it.
Except I kind of kept waiting for someone to mention the SG-1 robots ("Tin Man"). And then once they got on the planet and Ronon was being cranky about who's the real Ronon I got to thinking about that whole arc in Farscape with the two Crichtons. These are not bad things.
Randomly:
- Lorne! And Zelenka! With his magic hair. Seriously, I caught the beginning of "Miller's Crossing" before tonight's ep and his hair was shorter. Show, your shooting schedule is showing.
- Ronon and John stick fighting. John getting smacked in the forehead. "By accident. Sort of."
- I know that they needed to test Rodney without him knowing what they were doing, but after having been tortured with a big knife season one...Well, he certainly can't be too into knifes being near his person.
- Elizabeth! It was nice to see her again, even if she was a copy. As for her being dead? I don't know. Is she? Isn't she? I haven't been doing the spoiler-thing, so I don't know for sure. The scene with her and John in the back of the 'jumper was nice, though. With her whole, "I feel pretty good for a dead woman." She's a much better, more interesting person than the writers often let her be. And when Ronon and Rodney found her alone in that hidden room? I was reminded of fairy tales and Snow White.
I don't want Elizabeth to be dead.
- The two teams meeting. Hehe. That was amazing. Especially Rodney. And John. I loved all of their reactions, but the Johns mutual eye-rolling was all sorts of great. Plus, "My McKay." Hee. And "I kicked my own ass."
- Also, "We can't both be wrong."
- Mom brought up something that I hadn't really noticed, but while John and Elizabeth and both Ronons and Teylas were walking in the forest and both Rodneys were working, where was the other John?
- Rodney attempting to lose himself in his work. Radek understanding what he's doing. The Carson mention. Rodney's "Thank you." And then John coming in the check on him. "Isn't it past your bedtime?" Oh, boys. I keep thinking, no, they won't give us another nice ending scene with the two of them, but then they do.
- The ships. The black screen. "Oh crap."
- I was surprised there wasn't a "to be continued." Or that they didn't push the jeopardy a little more and end with something closer to a bang. Not that I'm complaining. It'll be interesting to see what happens when the show returns. Was John the only survivor of the crash? Did they kill him or just stun him?
I might have more to say later. Mostly I wanted to get some stuff down before I forgot anything.
