Yesterday I began training at the library. And now I've got a copy of the manuel for substitutes to go through.

Everything seems simple enough. My main concern would be technical difficulties when I'm the only one there. And also stumbling through Spanish. And the possibility of rowdy people. Because in Royal I really will be the only person there. At least the building's not that big. [livejournal.com profile] olivelavonne and I were talking and I told her that the whole library is roughly the size of our campus apartment, if not slightly smaller. Apparently, though, we're actually busier there than some of the slightly larger towns in the area.

Anyway, word has it everyone's really excited for me to complete my training so they can start sending me to the different branches. I am...excited.

Finish training Monday. Woo!

Earlier today I finished reading Agatha Christie's The Mysterious Affair at Styles, being Hercule Poirot's first case. Oh, how I love him. But I'd kind of forgotten what a doofus Hastings can be. As seen here after Poirot has enlisted someone other than Hastings to help him:

Poirot looked at me very earnestly, and again shook his head.

"You see," he said sadly, "you have no instincts."

"It was intelligence you were requiring just now," I pointed out.

"The two often go together," said Poirot enigmatically.

The remark seemed so utterly irrelevant that I did not even take the trouble to answer it. But I decided that if I made any interesting and important discoveries--as no doubt I should--I would keep them to myself, and surprise Poirot with the ultimate result.

There are times when it is one's duty to assert oneself.

Hee! He's so delightfully dim! And thinks all the women are attractive and want him. Oh, Hastings.

Becoming Jane is actually playing in Moses Lake. I was (and am still) a bit shocked. I honestly didn't think it would make it there. Wenatchee, yes. Maybe. But Moses? Wow. Mom brought it to my attention on Tuesday and suggested we see it Thursday after work. My response was, "What's stopping us from going tonight?"

So Tuesday we drove to Moses, had a nice dinner, got my cell phone fixed (yea!), and saw the movie. I don't care if (that) they made the whole thing up. I loved it. I had a feeling I would, even if it had turned out awful. I'm pretty forgiving that way. And Jane Austen is a big deal for me. She was the first author, the first literature I truly loved.

Plus, Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy are pretty to look at.

Now tonight Mom and I watched Year of the Dog. I recommend it. Molly Shannon is wonderful to watch.
