Movie rec!

Awhile ago, Mom and I saw the preview for the movie Sweet Land. Last month, we got it on DVD. The other night we finally watched it and it's kind of been stuck in my head ever since.

It's a beautiful movie, in both the acting and the filming. Tim Guinee, who I last saw as Tomin on SG-1 and reminds me strangely of Nathan Fillion, plays Olaf and Elizabeth Reaser plays Inge, Olaf's mail-order bride. They're absolutely wonderful together, stumbling through English, German, and Norwegian. And, oh, the looks of longing on Olaf's face at some points. They kind of make me want to lock the two characters in a closet some place until they give in and touch already.

The filming itself is gorgeous, like still photographs, all blue skies and green and gold fields as far as the eye can see. Really, I could just stare at the thing all day and be happy.

Because I'm that kind of person, here is the trailer at YouTube. (Alternately, there's also the actual website for the movie.) I think the comments on some of the clips are a bit amusing, given the fact that the movie's partially about the language and barriers. Which means that when Inge snaps? She isn't necessarily going to do so in one language and what she slips into isn't necessarily going to make any sense. Inconsistencies don't always mean the writer/director didn't do his research.

And, yes, there's a good possibility that's just my lame attempt to defend something I enjoy.
