Cue the Heavy Sigh

This is not the best week ever. It's not the worst, either, but it's long and stupid.
It's really not that bad, but I made a seriously stupid mistake on my poetry assignment and now Fr. Duffy is going to read it and go, "Um. What?" and probably leave a note saying just about that same exact thing.
Ugh. I'm going to go watch Black Books or something to distract myself.

SGA - "The Ark"
Just a couple of things I enjoyed. Mostly shallow things and quotes. Because, um, I maybe didn't pay a lot of attention to the actual plot. Whoops.
- John's seriously hot. I mean. Hi. (I remember back in the day when I was all, "If I ever call someone hot, shoot me." Because it's such a stupid word to describe a person who's not feverish. But, yeah, there's no other way to describe it sometimes.)
- The last time I saw Chuck the Technician in something he was OCD and possibly gay in the end. Superstar!
- "I wouldn't leave that guy with this guy right now. Not unless you wanted this guy dead."
- "Give me a second to figure out how screwed we are and I'll get back to you."
- Ronon is disturbing sometimes. And amazing. But still disturbing.
- "Time for the How Screwed We Are report."
- "Think of a brilliant plan, Rodney! That's what you do best. Using as little oxygen as possible."
- SHEPPARD: We don't leave our people behind. Did you forget that?
McKAY: No.
SHEPPARD: Good.
- RONON: Personally, I'd rather die fighting.
SHEPPARD: I'd rather not die.
RONON: I'm just saying.
SHEPPARD: Okay, look, if this rock burns up in the atmosphere, I'll fight you to the death myself, deal?
RONON: You're on.
- McKAY: I figure it would be nice if we were all together as we burn up.
SHEPPARD: McKay.
McKAY: I'm sorry, I mean as we get rescued. I always get those two confused.
- "Yea, faint hope."
- LORNE: No problem, just head on back to the 'jumper.
McKAY: No, no we don't leave our people behind.
I got scary visions of something horrific happening to the rest of the team and Rodney a little hysterical, refusing to leave the scene of whatever disaster happened, and repeating over and over, "We don't leave our people behind" every time someone tries to make him leave.
- "I know how much you love to think you can fly anything, but it is not possible!"
- "I think he's crazy." Of course you do, Lorne. Don't you know that you're the only sane person on Atlantis?
- McKAY: Can I say one more thing?
SHEPPARD: As long as you say it as fast as you can.
McKAY: Don't do this, it's impossible.
SHEPPARD: Willing to bet a week's wages on that?
McKAY: Yeah, and how are you going to pay up if I win?
SHEPPARD: Thanks for caring.
Oh, Rodney.
- What does John say in reply to Ronon's, "You still owe me a fight to the death"?
- McKAY: If you have anything that you would like to say, now would be a good time to say it.
SHEPPARD: No, not really.
- SHEPPARD: That's one week's pay you owe me, Rodney.
McKAY: You know, technically I didn't take that bet.
I love the delivery here. And I will happily read the scene like this: John almost dies, Rodney worries, John lives, responds first to Rodney who then banters back, everyone else smiles because John’s not dead and Rodney won’t be mourning his boyfriend.
- Almost got both of them killed? Um, excuse me John, but wasn't the whole team in danger?
In other words, STOP PUSHING TEYLA/SHEPPARD. I don't really see it and I don't like having romantic pairings pushed on-screen in a show that really doesn't need them.
- SHEPPARD: I would have done it for any one of you. Except for maybe McKay.
TEYLA: Yes, I think even for Rodney.
SHEPPARD: Maybe.
Okay, so they need to stop doing this, too. I can see it as John being funny, John protesting too much, John in denial. While I can't see it as John being serious, my first thought when he does stuff like this usually, "John, shut up" and has an eyeroll attached to it.
SGA - "Sunday"
So. I was planning on posting more of a response to this episode and then I talked to Natasha and my mom and thought I didn't need to say anything more. And though I don't really need to work through any issues I have with it, I think I'll still say something.
I liked this episode, but the more I think about it, the more dissatisfied I am with it. I knew that Carson would be leaving the show and I think that by having it go down this way, the writers/creators/whoever missed an opportunity to tie his death/leaving in with the greater arch with the Wraith retrovirus. I mean, Michael, who I do not believe is gone for a second, has got to be pretty pissed at Atlantis in general and Carson would have been someone to specifically focus on, being the brains behind the virus.
But no. Let's have a fairly fluffy episode and get rid of him there.
And, yes, I'm still sad about this. I didn't even like Carson that much after the first season. Which was the problem I mentioned before. I don't know how or why they developed him the way they did, but suddenly I was finding him annoying and unnecessary. And then this ep pops up and he's like the old Carson that I immediately liked and then they go and off him. Not cool.
Though I remained unspoiled for most of the day, I did have a hint of what was going to happen right before I watched it. The whole episode it was pretty obvious without any sort of hint. Way to throw subtlety out the window, guys.
Anyway. Let's talk about the other stuff that happened.
- Zelenka wins at chess! He and Sheppard should play and tease Rodney.
- Lorne paints! His mom taught art! Ha.
- I liked Katie Brown. And she and Rodney are mostly sweet together. However, I find her pretty bland and while I can see Rodney likes her to a certain extent, I think he'd get bored with her pretty quickly.
- Golfing. Ronon messing with John. John asking if Ronon has anyone, woman or man, that he's seeing/interested in.
- Married? John? I'm...not sure what I think about this. It's fine, but at the same time I'm a little annoyed that instead of getting insight into John, we just keep getting more layers of complications. Or something. Also, when he said he was bad at it my first thought was, "Gay!" When I called Mom and told her this she laughed pretty hard and hung up on me.
- I really hope Teyla wasn't talking about Sheppard in the very beginning. I don't want any actual romance on the show. It didn't work with Maddie and David on Moonlighthing and they had lots of chemistry. I can't see it working with people I see as having no chemistry in that way.
- Dress blues and suits. Very nice, but ruined by the occasion. I did love that everyone looked like they'd been hit pretty hard at the funeral. Speaking of, where did the bagpipes come from?
- The final scene. Rodney near tears will always make me tear up. (Kind of like Aeryn in tears makes me tear up.) Besides that, though? I wish everyone on the show would actually talk to one another and figure out exactly what the relationships between the characters are. Let's just leave it at that.
So, will there actually be continuity next episode with people remembering that once Carson was there and now he's gone?

Date: 2007-01-18 09:56 am (UTC)Well, you mentioned Amos Lee in your e-mail (which you'll be getting a reply to) and I went, "Hang on, I think I've got some of his stuff." It's actually the only song of his I have (Just Like Heaven soundtrack), but I really like it.

Date: 2007-01-18 04:20 pm (UTC)Delynn had his self-titled album and we listened to it by the fire the other night. I sort of fell in love with it, so I went ahead and downloaded his newest album and I thought I ought to share the wealth, as you usually give me such amazing tips and I rarely have any back.
