Crazy Doctors on TV
Sep. 12th, 2006 11:42 pmReally just a couple of thoughts on tonight's episode of Nip/Tuck.
Sean and Julia's handicapped baby. Let's see if I can articulate my feelings here. If a person is born with a handicap, isn't that handicap normal for that person? I had the understanding that people born blind or deaf don't go around thinking of themselves as handicapped or different in anyway because it is all they know. Granted, what this baby has will be a little more noticeable than that, but I think the idea's the same. If the child is growing up with this difference from birth, than they'll adapt to it. Mom and I were talking about this during the commercial break and she brought up the fact that children and animals can be very forgiving when it comes to mistakes and hurt. I think if handled well, Sean and Julia could raise their son fine with this problem. Sure, he'll wonder why his hands aren't like mommy's and daddy's, but kids survive.
I wasn't impressed with the way Sean and Julia handled Annie's actions. Especially when Julia found the dolls. I wanted to hear Annie's explanation for it.
Um. Other than that Mom and I totally called Christian and the boy toy. He showed up and Mom's like, "Now, if this were gay porn..." I stopped her and said, "That doesn't matter on this show." Which is completely true. My only hope was that Christian wouldn't beat the guy up. I had a feeling he would lash out. At least it was only a punch. I guess.
And now Matt's into Scientology. I'll admit that as soon as he saw Kimber my first thought was "they're going to have sex, aren't they?" Because on this show everything is possible.
Also, omg, Ashley Wednesday? Totally a name Neesha, Mom, and I (at least I think it was the three of us) came up with for a possible character. Because a character named Ash Wednesday is funny if you're us apparently. Anyway. I thought it was funny that the name showed up randomly here.
I've only got one thing to comment on about House tonight and that is Chase's lame excuse for a comeback. I died.

Date: 2006-09-13 07:54 am (UTC)Annie was the only one dealing with the situation in a level-headed manner. Everyone else is being touchy and douchey about disability, while Annie is trying to walk a mile in her wee brother's shoes. Disability so was the wrong topic for the show. I mean, it subtly reinforces the ableist agenda of our culture, that's there's only one acceptable body type. And then trying to cure people of what makes them them? Ugh. I'm gonna stop myself here because I've done too much reading in disabilities studies to discuss this in anything less than a lengthy essay. ;)

Why do all the insecure straight men on this show beat up the queer folks because they feel their heterosexuality/masculinity/power has been threatened? Sure the gayboy was a trashy Jamie-Bamber-look-alike but there were far better (and more creative!) solutions to the conundrum other than socking him. I'm starting to think the writers have some issues they need to work out here...

My god, he did kind of look like Jamie Bamber. It's Christian's own fault the guy stripped for him. I mean, he was making eyes at him at the strip club.

Date: 2006-09-13 08:53 pm (UTC)Also, Chase's comeback cracked me up, I was like, "OMG! Did you actually just say that?!" And his delivery was awesome. It was one of those moments that I was really glad I wasn't him, so I could laugh my butt off at him.
TV Tuesday's rock.

Date: 2006-09-13 10:21 pm (UTC)I don't think I've ever laughed that hard at House before. It was just so...unexpected! And the looks on the rest of their faces were just priceless. Oh, Chase! It really was all in the delivery.
TV Tuesday's do rock.
