"It looked like a fashion bitchslap"
Aug. 23rd, 2006 10:49 pmTonight's Project Runway made me really uncomfortable. The parts where I wasn't hiding behind a pillow, I was clutching the pillow to my chest because, yikes, lots of opportunity for humiliation and tears and things. And boy, was there humiliation and tears and things. (Just bringing the moms/sisters in ensured that there would be some crying of some sort.)
Jeffrey, Jeffrey, Jeffrey. Good for you overcoming addiction and suicidal tendencies. This does not give you an all day pass at being an asshole. I mean, Angela's mom drove me a little crazy too, but he should not have gone from relatively normal for Jeffrey to "I don't want you to even stand here" so quickly. That was uncalled for.
It will be kind of sad when either Jeffrey or Angela is kicked off because their fighting does make good drama, but at the same time it's like, geez, get over it you guys.
Other than that:
- Wasn't there a big WTF? moment when Vincent won? I mean seriously. Over Uli's flowy top? Over Michael's reversible dress? WTF? It wasn't a bad design, but I felt that the belt thing around the middle gave it a funny kind of heavy shape and the tan was a bit boring. I think I would have liked that better in white or another color. Uli's mom Heidi was lovely though.
- Robert. What the hell, man? You could buy that outfit at, well, anywhere practically. As much as I love Robert, I probably would have voted him off, too. That was just kind of sad and embarrassing.
- Angela's was blah. That's all I've got to say, really. It was just there. Laura looks A LOT like her mom though.
- Jeffrey, just...keep your mouth shut. Poor Angela's mom.
- I mostly liked Laura's design. It was a little dull color-wise and definitely not that flattering on her model's figure though.
- Really liked Michael's design. Thought he should have won. I want him in the top three. When I saw him sitting there basically going "La la la I think I'll make this reversible" and then he did no problem (at least shown), all I could think was "Brilliant!" During the runway, I really thought Robert's sister looked like Jo from Eureka. (Who, hey, was also in BSG. I just havne't gotten that far yet.) (It just occurred to me that if Michael were Santino, he would have complained that they just didn't want to give him three wins in a row.)
- Kayne's was also kind of blah for me. I didn't dislike it, but I had to agree with Nina that it was just a little too matchy-matchy. The pants were also kind of bad also. He and Michael's mom seemed to get along really well.
- I also thought Uli should have won. Uli or Michael. Uli's was just so very Uli and so very right for her model, Kayne's mom. They also seemed to really get along.
Overall, I will say that I think this was an excellent challenge in that it forced the designers to work with sizes that weren't ideal (at least, most of the designers).
Now what's the surprise next week? Oh, the anticipation.
Having just listened to Tim's podcast, I have to say that I agree that Uli should have won because out of the two I most liked (Michael's and Uli's), she was the one that had to deal with a body type she wasn't accustomed to dealing with. Tim also hints that the "jet setter" thing has them taking a little trip. Hmmm.
