I found some Twinkies while rummaging through the cupboards for something sweet to snack on. At first I was like, "I wonder if these are still good?" And then I was like, "Wait, aren't these supposed to survive even nuclear holocausts?" and ate one. I think they're only a week old anyway.

Isn't my evening exciting?

Long day. But my evening's been made rather nice due to some really excellent fanfiction being posted. And that's, well, really kind of sad for me, but there really is nothing better than curling up with something good to read and just forgetting about all of the dumb people.

Not that I ran into any specific dumb people today. Just in general.

My eye examine was at 9 am. Dad's was at 8:45. It's about a forty-five minute drive to Wenatchee, which meant I had to get about around 6. It's really not so bad since I can run on very little sleep once I get my ass out of bed (and showered; showering helps), but oh it's so nice to just stretch and stay under the blankets and go back to sleep.

The eye doctor himself is very nice. I've only ever had, I think, two doctors in my life. This one has very blue eyes and is short. Or I'm just freakishly tall. I suspect a little of both. Apparently he also hunts turkeys. Anyway. It was all well and good and he dilated my eyes and there's no health problem other than the fact that I'm near-sighted and have an astigmatism, which we've known since the fourth grade. Oh genetics, you're so good to me. ::eyeroll::

It's really not so bad though, all things considered. I think it was Grandma who asked me if I was considering laser surgery. I told her no. I've been more than happy with my contacts and while sometimes I'd prefer not to have to go through the steps of taking them out and putting them in, it's become habit. Also, I saw someone get that laser surgery done on TV and that kind of freaked me out.

The only uncomfortable part of the whole thing was when they wanted to give me eyedrops to un-dilate my eyes and told me to look at the ceiling, right at the big bright light. That's just cruel.

It was overall a pretty good day. Just kind of tiring. And my eyes still kind of sting. But how often does a girl go to the eye doctor with her father and then go hand gun shopping? Dad asked me if I was at all interested in shooting and, well, I'm not going to go looking for opportunities, but I did used to go with him out to the sand dunes when I was younger and do some target practice. I just haven't been around here a lot for the last three years. I'll take this chance to say I'm not into hunting, though. I'm fine with other people doing it, but I'm not going to go out and kill something. Give me paper targets any day.

Dad didn't actually buy anything. Did learn that he does a lot of things right handed (trigger finger) despite the fact that his dominant hand is his left. Then we went to Hart's and had fish and chips and I had some of Dad's Guinness and while I'm still not sure how I feel about it, it's probably something I could eventually become accustomed to.

So yeah.

I'm really excited about this next school year. Mom bought me/her/us a food processor! (Basically if I like it, it's going with me.) I'm a dork and really excited about that. Natasha and I are going to expose each other to all sorts of television and experiment with food. It'll be, well, interesting.

Meanwhile, I'm going to go back to trying to write. I had an idea and now the characters are just being stubborn and refusing to cooperate.

Wait, they have drops to UNdilate your eyes?!?!?! Fucking Lenscrafters did not give me that option! I spent 10 hours with dilated eyes the last time I got new glasses. It was night and I still had to wear sunglasses!

I'm jealous of you.

Also, if you could become accustomed to Guinness, you might like this one beer they have at the Six Arms.

They DO have drops to un-dilate your eyes. We were out of their by 10:45 and Dad was seeing well enough to drive. We did still need sunglasses though, but it only took a couple of hours to get mostly back to normal. Next time you have to get glasses, you should ask about it.
