Oh, Tom Skerritt

I caught just a little bit of the Tony Awards last night. I get really bored during acceptance speeches and so didn't stick around for too much of it. But I did see Tom Skerritt talk about the award for outstanding regional theater. This year it went to Seattle's Intiman Theatre.
Good for them. I was there once for Our Town and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, I found it really amusing that Tom Skerritt (who lives in Seattle) got to present it considering that he apparently was really awful as the Stage Manager. By the time I got to go, he had ditched the cast to go do something for Disney or Stephan King or both. The understudy was awesome, though.
Here's an article in the Seattle Times that mentions it.

Date: 2006-06-15 01:20 am (UTC)This isn't in response to you Tom Skerritt blog, but I had a couple questions. How sane do you think River would be after Miranda. Because some people write her as being perfectly normal, and while I don't think she is as mentally disturbed I wouldn't say she would be normal either. Also some people write Inara as still renting the shuttle and taking companions. I think if she stayed it wouldn't have gone to how it was before, I think it would have been an all or nothing thing.
I thought I'd set my fic about a year after Miranda. I haven't written anything but I have a few ideas.
Have your read any of the fics yet?
Your page is really cool by the way, much nicer than mine.

Date: 2006-06-16 06:25 am (UTC)From the way the movie ends, I think Inara either stopped taking on clients or maybe took on one or two. I could see her maybe falling back on it if she got scared about her choice to stay with the ship. It seems like she ran away from them because she was scared of more, and I could see her and Mal kind of backing away from whatever they might try in the beginning before finally going for it. Or something.
A year sounds good to me. That's enough time for things to become established (Simon/Kaylee) and for grieving to take place (Zoe, well, everyone really). It's also enough time for things to develop "off-screen," which is always a fun way to get around having to give specific details to some things.
Thanks. :) I like your LJ layout, too.
Oh, and I've read Expert and the first drabble-thing for the Carnivale series. I really liked both and I'm looking forward to what happens next in the series. I'd be farther along, but I still haven't even unpacked completely and have a list of fanfiction to catch up on that's HUGE. Why'd school have to go and get in the way?

Date: 2006-06-16 05:33 pm (UTC)I think I'll make an outline this weekend. I've never really written anything like this before and don't know if I'll be any good at it.
Thanks for the input!

Date: 2006-06-18 07:33 am (UTC)Outlines are a good thing. I'm horrible at them. If I were better, perhaps I'd be able to finish writing some longer fiction some time.
Have you done much creative writing before?
You're very welcome! I'm really looking forward to hearing more about this, and I always love to talk about all things Firefly!

Date: 2006-06-23 06:01 pm (UTC)A lot of fics have River as the pilot, but I never thought that would work because River would probably go on the jobs. Plus in my fic Zoe had a baby :) and River had to go on jobs. So I thought I might make Inara a pilot, like River is teaching her, but by the time I start my fic Inara is pretty good at it. What do you think? I've written a couple pages and think I know where its going.
I need a list of chinese phrases, but I think I know where to go and get those. Hope you summer is going well!

Date: 2006-07-04 11:50 pm (UTC)I could see River going either way pilot-wise. Mostly I can see her doing both. The really nice thing about fanfiction is that you can pretty much make anything true for the sake of the story you want to tell. With that in mind, I like the idea of Inara becoming at least part time pilot. After all, we already know that she can pilot her own shuttle, so she has some knowledge.
I also really love that you had Zoe have a baby. :D We probably talked about this, but I've always hoped that maybe she was pregnant because she wanted Wash's baby so badly.
I used to have a really good site for Chinese phrases and translations, but since my computer crashed last summer I'm pretty sure I've lost the link. I'm at my aunt's house at the moment, but at home I think I have a Firefly book that lists some of the common phrases. I can pass some of those translations on to you if you want.
