Looking Up
Jan. 13th, 2006 12:12 pmSo there is some good coming out of my crappy week. Mom ordered me a shiny new laptop from Dell. A shiny new laptap! Woo!
Meanwhile, I'm almost caught up on SGA eps. Just finished watching "The Long Goodbye," which I really kind of dug. Especially the conversation about television at the beginning. ("Depends what's on it. There are lots of programs on dozens of channels every day all day." "Most of which are fictional representations of ridiculously attractive people in absurd situations.") Was amused that, even though it wasn't "The John & Rodney Show," there was still a lot of little things between the two of them. Also, Caldwell has grown on me to the extent that I found him kind of adorable at the beginning and at the end around Weir. He just wants to be accepted! Beckett is growing on me once again. There was a little while there were I'd moved to being kind of "meh" about him, but I'm back to rather liking him quite a bit. Giggled at his, "Well, they're headed straight for divorce."
I going to have to save "Coup d'Etat" for after the weekend though. Sad panda.
Lots of reading to get done this weekend. Paradise Lost, The King Must Die, Utilitarianism, bits of Greek mythology. Taking State of Fear with me in case I want to read for pleasure. Also Serenity to watch. 'Cause Joss, even when he breaks you, makes it all better.
Hopefully I long weekend on my own will help me get completely better.
ETA (12/15/07): SGA - "The Long Goodbye" & "Coup d'Etat"
"The Long Goodbye"
- RONON: People just sit and watch this box for hours at a time?
SHEPPARD: Yeah, they do.
TEYLA: Is it that engaging?
SHEPPARD: Depends what's on it. There are lots of programs on dozens of channels every day all day.
McKAY: Most of which are fictional representations of ridiculously attractive people in absurd situations.
[the look btwn. Teyla and Ronon - hee.]
SHEPPARD: There are educational programs, all sorts of documentaries. Not many people watch them, but, well, they're on.
[Rodney looks like he wants to say something, what's with that?]
RONON: And that's what everybody on your planet does for entertainment? Watch a box?
McKAY: Not everyone. Although I will confess to the occasional half-hour of Jeopardy.
RONON: Jeopardy?
McKAY: It's the name of the show.
RONON: Sounds dangerous.
SHEPPARD: Double Jeopardy, that's twice as dangerous.
- I don't *care* if this ep is all kind of Sheppard/Weir, there's so many little, normal things between John and Rodney that there's still something there.
- Carson did the little wave. Hee!
- Ronon's voice broke on "Weir." Ha.
- "Well, they're headed straight for divorce."
- The part of me that wouldn't mind seeing Ronon/Elizabeth just loved the bit where Ronon decided to go after Sheppard because he doesn't "have the slightest clue how she thinks."
- I love when they show Atlantis upclose at night from the water.
- "He cares for you more than you know." And then they show *Rodney*? C'mon! They're just *asking* for it.
- Okay, honestly? I'm starting to rather like Caldwell. He was kind of adorable in a weird way there at the end. And I really think I would *love* if he and Weir just got it on. ;)
"Coup d'Etat"
- Wow, that was some *bad* exposition acting.
- Lt. Colonel Errand Boy. Heh.
- "Coulda been MENSA."
- McKAY: Y'know, I'm not sure that you've sufficiently trained me in actual combat. I don't know how much use I'd be in a fight-our-way-out scenario.
SHEPPARD: Well, I look at it this way, the Genii have tried to kidnap you on numerous occasions to mine that big ol' brain of yours.
McKAY: Yes.
SHEPPARD: Well, if we get into trouble, I'll just trade your life for mine.
McKAY: Funny.
SHEPPARD: Don't worry, if you survive I'll mount some sort of rescue mission. Eventually.
- "Well, that was refreshing. He didn't try to kill us even once."
- McKAY: Ledon stole it from the Brotherhood, the Brotherhood stole it from us. It's not really stealing, it's-
SHEPPARD: Recovery.
- Teyla's new top is hot.
- Wanted posters! Ha.
- Why is Rodney on the team that's raiding Ledon? I mean...why?
- McKAY: Did you see how I almost stunned that guy?
SHEPPARD: I must have missed it.
McKAY: Yeah, but if he was like a step to the right I would have stunned him for sure.
SHEPPARD: Good for you.
- "I just want to know who thinks I'm not a threat and give them a chance to change their mind." Oh, Ronon.
- Shoulder tap! Military gesture! The expressions! The eyebrow! HEE!! And then the looks between them at the end. Oh, love. Lots of love.
- Wow, Rodney's drop at the gas was pretty impressive. And, really, I called the ZPM being empty.
- Carson called her "love." Aw. "Why would you help us?" "Because I'm a doctor, that's what I do." Okay, so Carson wins my affections completely back. Not that they were ever gone, they were just on the backburner and kind of lukewarm. But now, just...aw, Carson. He's such a decent guy.
- There's something less sinister about a bad guy with fluffy curly hair.
- Lorne! Oh god, I love Lorne. He's just so cool and dry. How can you not love him?
SHEPPARD: Way to be aline.
LORNE: Thanks, sir. So you come to rescue us?
SHEPPARD: Well, until about a moment ago I thought you were dead, but now that I see you speaking and breathing, yeah, I'm thinking about it.
LORNE: Well good. Let me know if there's anything we can do to help.
- McKAY: Are we in some sort of trouble?
SHEPPARD: Was it the gas or the prison cell that was your first clue?
[Also, touchies!]
- Coup! Sneaky. I didn't call that.
- Lorne is...really hot all mussed like that.
- Sheppard ordering the shield up *just* before the blast hit. That was kinda cool.
- I kind of like Ledon. I hope this all turns out well later on.
- John is *adorable*. The look on his face at the end with Elizabeth...hee!
SHEPPARD: I say we call it a win.
WEIR: Who's spinning now?
SHEPPARD: All right, then I say we call it a night.
WEIR: That we can do.
