Why do you sing with me at all?
Dec. 7th, 2004 04:51 pmSo, I've been listening to my Damien Rice CD a lot lately, and whether or not the songs remind me of Lex or Clark or CLex, the reminder is definitely there. I don't know why. It probably has something to do with the fact that, well, just about every song I listen right now reminds me of them due to the incredible why fandom has grabbed me and pulled me in.
Anyway. It's not necessarily all of the songs on the CD, although it might be, and it's not necessarily all of the lyrics to the songs, but there's something about their tone that just grabs me and says, "Hey, look. Clark. Lex. Clark/Lex. They're so doomed."
For example:
Still a little bit of your song in my ear
Still a little bit of your words I long to hear
You step a little closer to me
So close that I can't see what's going on
Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannonball
--"Cannonball"
Amie come sit on my wall
And read me the story of O
And tell it like you still believe
That the end of the century
Brings a change for you and me
Nothing unusual, nothing's changed
Just a little older that's all
You know when you've found it,
There's something I've learned
'Cause you feel it when they take it away
Something unusual, something strange
Comes from nothing at all
But I'm not a miracle
And you're not a saint
Just another soldier
On the road to nowhere
--"Amie" (This whole darn song, actually.)
There's just something about them, something melancholy, that just gets to me and that I think will always be connected with these characters in my mind. Kind of like how Placebo's "Every You Every Me" will always remind me of Sparrington (modernized). Same with "The Origin of Love" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, except that's my general doomed, slashy song.
Besides that, I've also been listening to Poe quite a bit. And if her "Control" isn't just the *perfect* Lex song, I don't know what is.
You thought you could keep me from loving
You thought you could feed on my soul
But while you were busy destroying my life
What was half in me has become whole
While you were looking the other way
While you had your eyes closed
While you were licking your lips
'Cause I was miserable
While you were selling your soul
While you were tearing a hole in me
I was taking control
Now I have taken control
Now I have taken control...
And especially:
So this is how it feels
To breath in the summer air
The feel the sand between my toes
And love inside my ear
All those things that you taught me to fear
I've got them in my garden now
And your not welcome here
At least if you're going from any sort of slash fandom POV in which the Kents become the family Lex never had. And *especially* if you go by the Identical Series by Lanning, which is just, oh, brilliant.
And then, y'know, if I'm being a bit sentimental and weird, which I may as well be, there's "Amazed".
It's amazing to me but I can't
Seem to say what I'm doing here
My tongue is all twisted around the air
I'm looking for words that were so well rehearsed
But I can't find them anywhere
With you there's no easy answer
It's true
You change the equation that I add up to
And all of the things I thought I knew
You turn it around
I'm amazed
When push comes to shove what I'd give to you
Everything
I'm amazed
The hallways I wouldn't mind crawling through
And I'd do it for days and days
I'm amazed, I'm amazed
That places your taking me to
Wait, I thought I had this down
I built all my cages and my hide out
I covered all my bases
But you
You creep in like a whisper
I try not to listen but I hear you
I don't know just what it is you do
But do it again
I'm amazed
When push comes to shove what I'd give to you
Everything
I'm amazed
The walls that I wouldn't mind crashing through
And I'd do it for days and days
I'm amazed, I'm amazed
At all of the things I know you have done
'Cause this time I think we've really won
That tables have turned
Now I'm taking my hat off to you
You said 'we'll see'
But darling it's all clear to me
I'm amazed
And here in the foyer the hallway is small
I don't really think it's a hallway at all
It's a maze
Johnny your suitcase was finally received
She's packed up her things and she's ready to leave
It's amazing
All of the ink that was bled from your hands
Has painted a picture that she understands
It's amazed
And here by the ocean the sky's full of leaves
And what they can tell you depends on what you believe
It's a maze
The ass is a tree and the voices were three
And all that is gone is here sweeping through me
It's amazing
The voice of my father still loud as before
It used to scare me but not anymore
So, yeah. O's my CLex (or Clark and Lex on their own) CD of the moment and sometimes Haunted is so Lex it weirds me out. (Of course, this is only if all of the songs are taken as just songs and not in the context of Poe dealing with her father's death. Although, that could work too I guess.)
Also, the Smallville CD is so CLex it's funny.
