The wind howled through the trees as she lay awake in bed. Howled and haunted her. Haunted her with the otherness of it all. The unknown. No light, no safety. Nothing but the cold chill of loneliness. The harsh sound of destruction. This is what it's like to be totally alone. Empty and dark, surrounded by the whirling, howling world. Surging and spinning ever faster. Out of control.

Alone in the dark she waits- waits for the howling to stop- the spinning to slow- light to return. It will come in the morning. The movement will slow and her sight will return. But she will still be alone. Darkness is not the cause of loneliness. Movement not the hindrance of sight. Loneliness, self-imposed, will last.
