I had a creepy SPN-related dream Thursday night.

Sam and Dean were in a hospital. I'm not sure if they had just gotten there or if they were getting ready to leave. They were standing near the entrance, next to sliding glass doors. There were benches on either side.

Sam was basically wearing the outfit from "Sam, Interrupted" and someone had just handed Dean a set of clothes to change into, which leads me to suspect that they had just gotten there and were checking themselves in to hunt something. (Though it might have been the other way and Sam just hadn't gotten his regular clothes back yet. ::shrug:: It's a dream. Whatever.)

So Dean set the clothes down on one of the benches and Sam stood back, waiting for him to change. Right there in the hallway. Odd.

As Dean pulled his shirt off, Sam kinda rocked back on his heels, hands in the pockets of his robe, and looked up the hallway. It was dark down the middle of the hallway, though bright enough you could still see nurses and orderlies, doctors, there was a patient on a gurney being wheeled somewhere. As Sam looked, the lights at the far end of the hall flickered a little and a figure appeared, somewhat in shadow.

"Oh, good," Sam said, reaching out and tapping Dean on the shoulder. "Cas' is here."

Dean ignored him and kept changing.

But as Sam watched, Cas came forward and began reaching out and touching people as he passed them. Suddenly there were people - bodies - falling and people screaming. Sparks flying.

Sam grabbed Dean's shoulder. "Uh, Dean," he said, "that's not Cas."

And it really wasn't. It was someone else in one of those hospital robes, close enough to a trench coat from far away. The closer they got, the more you could see they were also much younger. An adolescent, really, maybe twelve. (Again, dream. Doesn't need to make sense.)

Dean looked up, followed Sam's eyes, and went tense and still all over before saying, "Oh, shit," and grabbing his stuff. They were out the doors the next minute, running across the yard of what was some sort of hospital complex.

There was still screaming behind them.

They ended up running around a lot then, going from building to building. Eventually they ended up in one that had some sort of...display or exhibit and it turned out spirits had been disturbed and brought back from somewhere (like the freaky spiders in Arachnophobia). Or something like that.

All I know is that watching the thing at the end of the hallway, that looked like Cas to begin with, start kill people nonchalantly left and right like it was no big deal was disturbing. And seeing Sam realize what he was seeing and what it meant and that they were screwed was a little chilling, too.

Ooh, and now I've got ideas about something really bad using Castiel's (or Sam's or Dean's) image to get to any one of the others. Like insects evolving to look like their surroundings so they won't get eaten or so that their prey will come close enough to be eaten.

Like the huge bugs in Mimic.

Oh! And then Sam and Dean wouldn't be fighting something evil or supernatural, they'd just be fighting something that just is. Something that just evolved that way because nature can be funny and scary like that.

Though I guess that's what they're doing with the shapeshifters. Except I think it would be interesting to have something that's...even less human, y'know? Something that can't be talked to or reasoned with. Something that can't talk back.

I'm probably not making a huge amount of sense at this point (if I ever did), but that's okay.

Anyway, the image of the figure at the end of the hallway has stuck with me. As as the look on Sam's face when he realized it wasn't Castiel coming toward them. If a Winchester looks freaked, you're probably in trouble.

Aaaand now I'm thinking about how cool it would be if Supernatural were directed by Guillermo del Toro. OMG. It would be AWESOME.

Excuse me while I go flail just thinking about it.

ETA: Haha, so I was thinking del Toro's scary stuff, like The Devil's Backbone. Mom, however, suggests a crossover with Hellboy. "Can't you just see Castiel going, 'What the fuck? He's a demon.' and Dean being all, 'He's Hellboy. We can't send Hellboy back to hell!'"

And then, she added, someone would have to point out to Sam, "Hey, we found someone bigger than you!"

Have I mentioned lately how much I love my mom? 'cause, seriously. I do.
