Cornered in a Parallel World - NY Times Coraline review.
I am so pleased to hear this. I think
michelerz and I have talked before, briefly, about entertainment aimed at children these days. It's all about things happening fast and things happening now. My last big problem was with the film of The Golden Compass. That was a film that moved very quickly throughout. So quickly that by the time we got to the parts of the film meant to make the audience feel like the characters were in jeopardy, you didn't because they were unnoticeable from the rest of the film.
The bit about the 3D being "unusually subtle" makes me happy, too.
sdrohc_ratiug and I are supposed to see this on Sunday. YEA.
It is certainly exciting, but rather than race through ever noisier set pieces toward a hectic climax in the manner of so much animation aimed at kids, "Coraline" lingers in an atmosphere that is creepy, wonderfully strange and full of feeling.
