Taking a break from the book I am reading to post my reaction to tonight's SGA. Because not just skipping to the end could very likely kill me at this point.
SGA - "Remnants"
I liked it. I think that I could probably be pretty ticked off about the whole Kolya misdirection, except I got through the ticked off part in "Irresponsible."
Plus, Mom and I figured it out less than half-way through. Basically when we came back from commercial break and Sheppard was missing a hand. (Skywalker much?) Yeah, no way that was happening for real. And Dr. Conrad was suspicious. And so was Zelenka. Add to that the title of the episode. It all made sense to me.
But I'm fine with the Kolya misdirection because, like I said, I've dealt with the part where I'm annoyed at the writers for throwing away an adversary like that. But beyond that, we also got some insight into John's subconscious. Not necessarily anything that fandom hasn't suspected before, but it's nice when the writers prove that they sort of pay attention. Occasionally.
Randomly:
- I really enjoyed the beginning with the speculation concerning Woolsey and whether or not he's lonely. And Ronon baiting Rodney with the whole, "Sometimes when I walk by his quarters late at night, I hear crying." Heh.
- The science team shorts are really dorky. Maybe it's just that whole field-work-shorts-with-boots combo. But, Parrish!! And John's "Lorne warned me about this." I know Parrish has previously only been on the show for, like, a minute, but I do enjoy seeing him show up in fic. And I'm definitely fine reading some Lorne/Parrish. So the fact that he's around and that Lorne got mentioned...Yeah. I can work with that.
- "There is no Chet." Oh, Chuck! Although later I gotta say, Woolsey knowing the ladies' names and not Chuck's? Interesting.
- KOLYA: You can tolerate more than any man I've ever known.
ME: ::snort::
MOM: That's what Rodney said.
ME: ::dead::
- The McKay/Zelenka brilliant conversation. I love that Rodney's first response to that was to ask if anyone was sick. And in the end, it really did turn out that something was not right there.
- So Kolya asks John if he's got a death wish or if he's running away from something. Personally, I think John's got a little of both.
- I loved what they did with the camera when Kolya tackles John and he tumbles over the cliff. That was cool.
- MOM: So this is the point where they wake up and Bobby Ewing's in the shower.
ME: No, this is the point where they wake up and Carson's in the sho--Oh, wait. This is the point where they wake up and Daniel's in the sho--Damn.
- "You torture yourself every day, John."
- I do love Woolsey, quite a lot. And he got to really exercise his "WTH?" here. Poor him, though, finding out his possible love interest really is just in his head.
- SHEPPARD: Neat?
McKAY: She caught me off gaurd. What would you have said?
SHEPPARD: Weird.
