Project Runway - 5.09

Liked: Jerell, Joe, Korto, Leanne,

Borderline: Suede

Meh: Terri

WTF: Blayne, Kenley

- Blayne, seriously. WTF? I mean, I get it. But at the same time...It was just wrong. It kind of reminded me of barf. Which is kind of sad, since at one point I absolutely loved one of the sketches he was doing in the early planning.

- Hey Jerell! Way to finally win one! I really liked the shape of his garment. It brought to Athena to mind. For me anyway. It was nice to see Jennifer come back and help out with something that was a win. Even though I still am not sure she really understands "surreal."

- Joe's was cool. If, as Mom pointed out, a little flamenco dancer. I liked the richness of it though.

On Tim's blog he says that Daniel seemed to be in charge, which totally explains the flamenco thing.

- Korto's garment was pretty and flowy. I really liked it. For whatever reason, it reminded me of the gown Austin Scarlet designed season one that was blue, white, purple, and flowy. And then someone the next season (or later) used the same fabric. I mean, looking at it the gowns are nothing a like. The color palate just made me think of them. And then I missed Austin a little.

Apparently her partner, Kelli, fell ill partway through.

- Leanne's was cool. Reminiscent of a scorpion without actually being a scorpion. Which she and Emily kept pushing.

- Suede's was fine, but nothing special. During judging all I could think about was how the fabric of the pants creased and wrinkled at the crotch. I'm always worried about things getting all wrinkly and looking stupid, so I noticed.

- Terri. Tsk tsk. How the mighty have fallen. In the end, all I could think was that they weren't going to send Suede home just for being boring. I just had a feeling it would be Terri alongside Blayne. I think it's a shock considering her previous work, but this was just odd. And I really did not like her attitude. Sure, it's completely possible they edited footage in favor of Keith, but she just really wasn't giving him anything to work with. It made me feel bad for him. But he should have pushed more, so I feel bad for her also. And now she's gone. Crazy. I really was expecting her to make it to Bryant Park.

- Kenley. WTF? Again, I get it. But this wasn't even close to anything they were looking for. Either she was just doing what she wanted to do and was rationalizing it into the challenge, or she just interpreted her sign in a less non-literal literal way than the rest of the designers. Does that make sense? Going for the traits instead of the symbology. Except other people did the same and their signs were still recognizable. I can't even remember what Kenley's was. Aquarius? Plus, the attitude! Geeeez.

- I thought Wesley's comment about not adding anything to Kenley's design himself was really funny. It started out sounding kind of positive and then went downhill fast. It makes me wonder about the personalities of the contestants that get cut early.

I've also been enjoying Top Design. How adorable is Wisit? And he and Nathan tonight? So cute! Or, thanks Jonathan Adler, jadorable. Also, Todd Oldham. I don't want to use the adora-word again, but there's something about him that almost makes me flail like Tim Gunn does. Almost. ::shrug:: I dunno.

Also, hee, just found this on Jonathan Adler's show blog:

Was I smoking Angel Dust or did Natalie say something about the world coming to an end because the Chinese might bomb us to avenge Hiroshima? Granted, Natalie's history snafu seemed a bit more Sunset Tan than Top Design, but I am always up for a bit of reality TV idiocy and Natalie delivered. Paging Joel McHale. Thank you Natalie for your priceless quote!

I thought the same thing!
