Sunday night while Mom and I were watching Dexter (which I love, by the way, and think everyone should check out if they haven't already) they showed a preview for this movie called The Strangers. At first I was kind of intrigued because I get tired of seeing the same commercials over and over. Then I was kind of worried. And then I had to close my eyes because I could not deal with a movie trailer.

I should have let Mom change the channel. I thought I could handle just hearing it until it was over. Boy, was I wrong.

According to IMDb, the movie's about this couple staying at their vacation home. Everything seems fine and dandy until three mysterious people show up and start terrorizing them. Which, okay, sure thriller. Horror. Whatever. But they hit all of the things in the trailer that scare me. Middle of nowhere. Unknown noises. Telling yourself it's nothing. Telling yourself you would have heard someone drive up. Telling yourself the dogs would be barking if someone was out there.

Because that's what I do.

At one point in the trailer, the part I wish I hadn't heard, Liv Tyler asks why them. They answer, "Because you were home." And all I can think is, "Because you were awake." Do not self-insert!

So now I don't feel comfortable sitting in my own kitchen, where the internet is, at night because the door to the back porch is right here and there's a window to my back that faces the road. And I know it's stupid and I am fine, but at the same time...

At the same time there's a bunch of big, open, dark space out there.

It's silly and stupid to have such an intense reaction to a movie trailer of all things. But, damn it, it really did hit every single thing that freaks me out. I've had a lot of ridiculous things-that-go-bump-in-the-night fears, but the idea that you could look up or turn a corner and run into someone who isn't supposed to be in your house? That scares me.

So yeah. I probably won't be seeing that movie.

Although, I will admit that there's a part of me that's kind of curious about the end. Curious enough to ask other people once they've seen it.

That's what she said.

Also, just be glad like... they're not frogs traumatizing people. Or people with frog masks. Quadruple whammy right there.

I keep meaning to Wiki the movie to see what the "real story" is. I may read it, but only when it's daylight, since Sunday night when I watched the preview, I ended up having a terrible dream about the movie. Dammit.

You know... I wonder if this type of reaction to the trailer was a success or failure for the advertising/production company. I mean, you made the correct response and yet, you will MORE THAN LIKELY NOT SEE THE MOVIE!

Hm, who knows.

..but don't worry, I get the same feeling when I'm in the back TV room of my parent's house. I hear noises and I worry that someone's gonna break in and get me. I mean, it's a direct outlet to the backyard... anyone could jump our gate if they wanted to... CREEEPY!

Oh, Kasey. Thank goodness you're around. And, seriously, I'm sorry it gave you a terrible dream, but I was so happy to have someone to talk to, even briefly, that night. 'Cause geez. Obviously it's still bugging me.

You know, frogs/frog masks might almost make it better. Because the frogs/masks I'm thinking of look pretty comical. And then if they were frog-people that would mean it was one of SciFi's stupid movies and thus laughable. But they could probably make really freaky frogs and, yes, quadruple whammy.

I just looked it up on Wikipedia and they've got nothing.

Oh, I hadn't thought about that. But you're right, the trailer obviously caught my attention and made me curious enough not to change the channel even after I shut my eyes. So in that sense, success. However, yeah, NOT GOING TO WATCH IT.

Unless I have friends over and there is alcohol and mocking involved.

I'm glad I'm not the only one freaked out by noises!

Ugh. I hate movie trailers. But I'm like you and always want to know what happens. So when movies like that come out, I just google for the spoilers and read it about it. For some reason reading doesn't scare me as much.

Is this the same scary movie coming out about the well-dressed neighbors or people who come over and start killing the family. And the guy in the tennis outfit says something like "Let's bet by this time tomorrow you'll be dead." UGH. SO creepy, because wouldn't you let a well-dressed fancy looking person into your house? NEVER AGAIN.

I know what you mean about reading not seeming to be as scary. I think it may have something to do with visuals.

The scary movie you're thinking of is Funny Games. Another movie I won't be seeing. And, yeah, you totally think that people who look nice and clean won't come in and torture you. SURPRISE.
