The last time I posted, I was in Salt Lake City. Since then I've been through Arizona and Nevada; now I'm in California. Dad and I hit the turning point of our trip and are now heading north and home.

After Salt Lake, we drove down to Mesquite where we stayed for two nights at one of the casinos and got to see [livejournal.com profile] trademybike and [livejournal.com profile] michelerz. It was wonderful to see the both of them again. And while Mesquite was certainly nice to visit, I can totally understand why Kasey would like to live elsewhere. If you're not a gambler, there's a whole lot of nothing.

So Friday we got to Mesquite and didn't do much of anything except settle in to our room and wander the casino. Saturday Dad, Michele, Kasey, and I drove to Lake Mead and walked around a bit, which was nice. Then we drove through the Valley of Fire.

Saturday night we played bingo, which was a lot of fun and a lot less intimidating than it first seemed after laying the nine cards out. I was even able to drink! Yea, booze.

Sunday we followed Kasey and Michele to Las Vegas and stayed at the Flamingo on the Strip. We were on the eighteenth floor and the view was pretty amazing. Went to dinner at Margaritaville with Margaret, an old friend of the family. Had a yummy rummy drink. Left Dad with Margaret and took off down the Strip to Planet Hollywood where I ended up with Michele's Sex on the Beach. I don't know what it makes me sound like, but I'd be pretty happy just wandering up and down the Strip with a couple of good friends and a drink in my hand. Hee.

And that's the thing about Vegas. I really thought it would make me uncomfortable because of the amount of people, but I wasn't at all. The only thing that made me at all cranky was the unpacking and repacking of the car. Garr. Actually being in the casino and on the street was no problem at all.

Doesn't hurt that I haven't laughed that hard in a while.

After wandering around, we went back to the hotel and share pina coladas and watched Dan in Real Life. Oh, Steve Carrell.

Sunday Dad and I went off on our own after checking out of the Flamingo. We walked down to the Venetian to see Madame Tussauds wax museum, which was very neat and a lot of fun. Kind of creepy, too. Took lots of pictures. Then we wandered around the Venetian and the shoppes at Ceasars Palace. I was a big fan of it all, really. The weather was beautiful and I thought the buildings were fantastic.

Sunday and Monday night we spent at Margaret's house in Summerlin. Tuesday we went back to the Bellagio and wandered around inside. That was impressive. Then we drove to Hoover Dam, which seemed like it should be more impressive. I mean, it is impressive, it just seemed like it should be bigger. Grand Coulee is actually the biggest dam in the US. But Hoover Dam was still neat to see. After that we drove through Red Rock Canyon, which was gorgeous.

Now it's Wednesday and we just drove through Death Valley and visited the ghost town of Rhyolite and a house made of glass bottles. I have pictures of those, too, but this post is now pretty picture heavy and long enough.

But that's basically what I've been up to.

I really like the picture with the palm trees in front of the flamingo! super cool.

AWWW, it was soooo good to see you! I'll have to make an effort to visit your town sometime, because it sounds pretty cool.

Good luck on the rest of your trip and enjoy the road!

Some of the pictures turned out a lot better than I thought they would. Yea!

Sometime when you're in Washington we'll at least have to meet up. And you'd totally be welcome on the farm whenever.

We're in Susanville, CA tonight! The drive today was beautiful.
