There's only so much packing I can take before give up on being methodical, throw up my hands, and yell, "Screw it!" while throwing stuff in a bag.
Okay. That's not true. I don't throw things in a bag. I yell, "Screw it!" and then take a break. Then after some time doing other things (usually goofing off), it's back to packing.
At least I don't have to do the dorm move in/move out thing anymore. Woo.
Back to Teyla and my post yesterday. I'm not entirely sure I really expressed what I wanted to express. And I'm actually not entirely sure how to do that.
The thing is, when SGA first started I was not a big Teyla fan. (I blame her hair. And that coat.) But after a few episodes, she was clearly pretty damn awesome. (It shone through the bad hair.) I never say too much about her after watching most episodes, but that's because I'm generally blinded by how much I love John and Rodney.
So what I mean to say is that I love Teyla, too. And my only concern for her changing role because of her pregnancy and her move into motherhood is that she'll become somehow less of the character that I love. Or even just less of a character. Her understanding of the world can change, but I don't want to see her become a character that the writers can just conveniently push aside because she has a child.
Not that they haven't randomly left her out of episodes before. But I want to see her be a mother and a teammate and a leader. I want her to continue smiling indulgently or rolling her eyes at John, Rodney, and Ronon.
I just want her to continue being fantastic. And considering the way the writers have done things to some of the other characters, particularly the female ones, can you blame me for worrying a little?
ETA: Although, I need to keep reminding myself that there's a difference between the author's intention and the reader's interpretation. So, since I'm already viewing the show in a certain way (oh, subtext), then I can just continue to interprete Teyla in the way that makes the most sense to me.
Besides which, there was that comment about taking out some frustration on the new IOA guy. Teyla is not any less fiesty than she was. Plus, the whole popping out the window thing in "Quarantine." Which, yes, was stupid of her, but she's new at all this and not really one to sit around waiting.
Maybe I just want more episodes where they're being a bit more active about the Athosians.
