SGA - "Harmony"
Last night's SGA was a lot of fun. Made even better because
olivelavonne is over for the weekend and so I got to watch it with her and Mom. It's always just that much more entertaining when you have equally appreciative people around you.
Because of the teaser being what it was, with Rodney calling dibs, I was a little worried I'd end up cringing through the episode. I certainly had to hide my face knowing that the princess that was going to come through the doors was going to be a child. However, I was pleasantly surprised that McKay's dibs were never mentioned again. Sheppard didn't even poke fun at him for it. I approve.
Although, Natasha and I got to talking about it today and wondering if Rodney would have acted the same way had Katie still been in the picture. We both leaned toward yes, because as much as the writers would like us to think Rodney thinks about her, it's pretty obvious that he doesn't. And it's kind of a sad state of affairs that the writers probably wouldn't have remembered her either.
But that's neither here nor there.
I loved that John didn't even see the thirteen year old girl coming. You'd think he'd have some sense of his own attractiveness, and I'm sure he does because I think we've seen him use it to manipulate people (or maybe I can just see him doing this), but when he's not trying he's always surprised. Granted, she was thirteen and I can see him being blindsided by declarations of love and proposals of marriage, but after all of the "Wow, John, we have so much in common" and "John, what do you think?" that she was doing he was surprised when the crush seemed obvious.
John is just oblivious.
(ETA: Since I didn't tape it I can't rewatch the episode, but now I'm thinking maybe he was less oblivious of the crush than I thought. I think I just like the idea of John being oblivious about anyone in that way.)
I ended up liking Harmony a lot. She wasn't really what I was expecting, which was nice. I was expecting someone more...Mary Sue like, so when she asked about beating McKay and then stole Sheppard's food as soon as he was gone, I was kind of thrilled. Not so happy that Rodney got blamed for it, but glad then that John didn't give him a hard time. Just took it in stride as a Rodney thing. And after the journey's over maybe he'll believe Rodney that Harmony was lying.
If they'd introduced a character closer to this that McKay ended up being interested in, I would have been much more willing to go with more of a love story. She was spunky. Spoiled, also, but she had attitude and it was fun to see her butt heads with both of the guys. Of course, feeling that a character more like Harmony would suit Rodney better only goes back to the whole John + Rodney = OTP. 'Cause she's basically a mixture of the two of them.
I loved John hugging her. Also thought it was amusing that it's the most comfortable he's looked hugging anyone. Though he was also kind of "yeah, yeah, whatever" about it, which was funny.
Rodney used "John" a lot. Three times in a row. I feel ridiculous being excited and happy about that, but it makes me excited and happy so I'm just going to go with it.
I liked that John wished Ronon was with them (where were Teyla and Ronon anyway?) and Rodney was all, "You said that outloud." But then John actually explained that Ronon's a better tracker than both of them and it wasn't actually a dig at Rodney at all.
Rodney getting to talk to Harmony about being in love with John Sheppard amused the hell out of me. It's a complicated state of existence.
And "I don't not like you." Haha.
Rodney's "unner-stay" made me laugh.
As soon as they got to the ruins all I could think was, "JOHN'S THE PRETTIEST PRINCESS OF THEM ALL" and then he ACTUALLY WAS. HA. And then I kept seeing him playing "Pretty, Pretty Princess" and winning with the necklace and the ring and the earrings and the crown. I used to make my dad and uncles play all of the time. It was hilarious. So John needs to play it, since I'm sure the crown would look great on his head.
Anyway. I was also thrilled when Rodney threw himself on Harmony to protect her and then shielded her over to the rocks. Oh, Rodney. "You like me!" Hee!
And so we end with a painting that is both hilarious and a little bit terrifying. It's been a while since something on TV made me laugh so much I got close to tears, but that totally did it. Just thinking about it makes me giggle.
So, yes, I really enjoyed this one. I liked how, well, gentle Sheppard and McKay were with each other even with their usual bickering. It was good.
