I was dusting down in the living room and found my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows which I loaned to my dad a couple of months ago. All well and good, except for the fact that it's now marked on the outside cover with, well, not exactly fingerprints, but signs that it's been handled by not quite clean hands. It's a stupid thing to be annoyed about, but I am a little. Which is why I'm whining about it here.

Granted, I did take the dust jacket off, so I can just put that back on and call it good. But still. When I let people borrow things, I expect them back in the same condition.

My favorite, and most frustrating, book loaning experience was when I let a friend borrow The Fellowship of the Ring in high school. A section of at least fifty pages fell out while she was reading in the bathtub. Luckily, it wasn't part of my nice boxed set or else I would have been really annoyed. And it wasn't even the first time I'd loaned her a book and gotten it back in more than one piece.

Anyway, like I said, it's not a big deal. I just would like my own personal copies of things to remain in fairly clean, decent condition.

Then I probably shouldn't tell you I dropped both series 1 and 2 of Doctor Who in the toilet, hm?

Just kidding :)

I had a lot of people wanting to borrow my DVDs in high school and I was hesitant to loan them, as I knew how my friends treated their personal belongings and wouldn't you know it.. I received many of them back with the plastic middle part that the disc holds on to, shattered, so the disc just rattles around in the box.

:O omg I knew I shouldn't have trusted you with the Doctor!

Sigh.

You're one of the people I don't mind loaning things to, since I know that you have the same sort of expectations about loaning. I figure you'll take care of stuff.
