Back from Seattle. Thankfully the trip home took the usual approximate three hours and not the bizarre seven hours that Thursday's trip over took. We left at ten in the morning on Thursday and didn't get to my aunt and uncle's house until nearer seven. Weather was fine, but by the time we made it to Ellensburg, they were closing down the pass for avalanche control. So we spent an hour and a half having lunch and then took the old highway to Cle Elum where we waited in the Safeway parking lot listening to David Sedaris until 3:20 when they finally gave the all clear and let us continue on our way. This meant that we hit downtown Seattle at rush hour. Other than that, though, it was a pretty nice day. Even the sitting around waiting was enjoyable.

And, really, overall the whole weekend wasn't bad. Friday was really the purpose of the trip, but we had some fun, too. Saw Juno, which I absolutely recommend. It is every bit as good as everyone says it is. Then had tea and cake with Nana Fran. Saturday we met up with [livejournal.com profile] olivelavonne and had lunch and went shopping. Spent the evening with EB and her parents. I can't even complain too much about the crazy there, except...

EB and I share the same birthday, though we were born three years apart. One year, her mom gave us both tea cups that had belonged to her mother. The Thanksgiving before last, she asked me why I cried when I opened it. Apparently a few days ago she asked EB why I cried. And the thing is, I didn't. I don't remember it. EB doesn't remember it. My mom doesn't remember it. My aunt is clearly imagining things and she just will not believe us all when we say it never happened.

It's weird.

Anyway, EB gave me Brain Age for DS and now I'm totally beginning to understand the appeal of Sudoku. And I don't even like numbers.

So now I'm home and I just finished watching Persuasion on PBS. I'm still a little flaily over it. While it wasn't the best adaptation ever, it was new for me and Persuasion is my favorite Austen novel ever, so watching any decent adaptation is enough like curling up with a copy that I'm happy.

And of course there was a new SGA on Friday. Keep in mind it's been a couple of days and being with family there were some minor distractions.

SGA - "Spoils of War"

The few comments I've run across concerning this episode since coming home have been really flaily and positive. And that's great, really. But it kind of leaves me wondering at my own reaction, because mostly I found "Spoils of War" to be a whole lot of filler and kind of meh. I mean, there was a bunch of little stuff I loved, but it all seemed strung together. I don't know. It's kind of hard for me to articulate.

- Lorne made the episode for me. I loved his scene with Teyla where he talked about his sister and her sons. Uncle Evan. The Air Force artist.

- I also liked the bit in the locker room, with Ronon manhandling Rodney out of there. Though it did make me wish we'd seen him learn about Teyla's pregnancy, because he clearly knew exactly what was going on. And in my slash-filled mind I like to pretend that he was sticking around because he knew John had issues after awkwardly kind of addressing them and was trying to be his supportive in his own way. But that's just me.

- Also loved how the Queen went straight for Rodney when John wouldn't give and the look of absolute terror on John's face.

- Todd got a name!

- Teyla was totally kick ass with the Queen. Seeing her like that made me realize just exactly what kind of tough ruling figure she could be. And also how much fun an evil Teyla could be.

- And John and Teyla really worked for me. It was nice that they actually talked about things and worked through it instead of ignoring the issues and working against each other.

- Teyla's baby boy. I'm wondering exactly how much she can sense from him. I bet that makes the pregnancy a whole lot more real to her than just a physical issue she has to deal with.

- I was really relieved that the whole thing with the hive ship wasn't a trap. For the first half I was convinced they'd been too trusting once again, so it was nice when it turned out that Todd really did need help.

So I guess I really liked this episode more than I started out thinking. Maybe it was just the Wraith cloning plot that made it feel kind of meh. Like they had certain issues they wanted to address (Teyla and John, the baby, etc.) but they had to have some sort of way to get them to that point so they figured, hey, this'll work. Plus it'll explain the great number of Wraith.

So, I don't know. Good. But not the best for me.
