How I love when this show returns. Oh, team.
I was basically grinning like a moron throughout the majority of tonight's episode. It just made me unbelievably happy.
There was:
- Rodney's almost PowerPoint presentation with Ellis getting snappy and John trying to talk Rodney down from the speeches and the tangents. I liked that when John got a bit more forceful, Rodney buttoned it without complaint. I imagine John uses the same voice in the field and Rodney knows when he means business.
And Rodney sure does like his presentations, doesn't he? He's definitely got an idea about how ideas and information should be presented and I think similar behavior can be seen in his doing the whole "chevron one encoded" thing back in "Rising." He can't just come in and say things, he's got to make a spectacle.
- Caldwell. It was kind of nice to see Caldwell again. He's got more experience with Atlantis than Ellis does and so is less of an ass about stuff.
- Carter! Oh, when Carter told Ellis off with the whole "If you ever speak like that to someone under my command again" thing I was so very surprised and pleased.
In fact, I was surprised and pleased by Carter throughout the episode. Which isn't to say that I didn't like her in the past; I've always liked Carter. What I mean is, I was pleased with how her relationship with Sheppard and McKay was portrayed. Particularly McKay. Even more, I was pleased with how McKay reacted to her. And most of that is in reaction to the scenes from "Trio" in those Q&A sessions that SciFi.com has been doing that have been making me kind of uncomfortable with McKay, Carter, and the writers. Especially the writers. I'd like to think that when he needs to focus, McKay can move past ogling Carter. And I think tonight's episode, and the episodes previously, have proven that he's grown in that regard since SG-1.
Basically, I like them being friendly and professional. Or as friendly and professional as you can be with a personality like Rodney's.
- The Wraith. When Rodney said, "Did I ever tell you the story about how...?" and the Wraith responded, "Yes, you have" I just laughed and laughed. He sounded so sad and put-upon. And I have totally been in his shoes.
- Zelenka and McKay are always good. Always. And Rodney's three week dry spell. Heh.
- John and Rodney. Heeeeee. First John asked him if he wanted to go for a ride. And then he came home and Rodney asked him if he wanted to grab a late dinner and he said, "I'd love to." Guys! You keep having end scenes together! They keep reinforcing your strange little relationship! What is going on, show? The whole slash thing seems a whole lot easier to see this season, though I pretty much always saw it, and I'm not sure what to do with that. I still don't know what to do with the emotions during that scene in "Miller's Crossing."
Oh! And there was even teasing about Duranda, which to me seems to indicate that at some point they must have had an actual conversation somewhere and come to an understanding. And John leaned on the console and it was just a wonderful way to close the story on Atlantis. Plus, John teasing about the dry spell. And them walking off to get dinner together with their continued banter.
These two just make me stupidly happy.
- Fran. I really quite liked her. And Fran, Rodney, and Radek. That worked for me. It was nice, also, that Rodney's little Replicator plan didn't turn on them. When Zelenka left the room because of whatever minor emergency that way, Mom was like, "Now who's going to keep Rodney's ego in check?" Luckily, that time it worked out fine.
- Larrin got to meet Rodney. Sort of. We didn't get to see any introductions, but Rodney was going to blow up a planet and Larrin was sort of impressed and Rodney looked sort of nervous. Which made me laugh.
John at the end? Looking for a female friend to talk to since his other good female friend has been lying to him. Which leads me to...
- Teyla. Finally telling John and Ronon about the baby. Bringing up the same concerns I had as soon as the Wraith stunned her. The lack of congratulations from John wasn't at all surprising. They're close and she didn't tell him. He already feels responsible for everyone and there he is putting her and a life he didn't even know about in harms way. So he'll cool off a bit, hopefully blowing stuff up helped, and get over it.
It's not cool that he kicked her off the team without thought or discussion, but he gets kind of crazy protective sometimes.
And then there was Ronon. His response was beautiful, with the hand-holding and going to the infirmary and the support and knowing who the father is. They have such lovely scenes of the two of them. And I love the balance that we get, of them being fierce and soft. They're wonderful together.
Who's going to tell Rodney? I could actually see them going on for a bit and Rodney saying something about Teyla looking different and Ronon being like, "She's pregnant" and Rodney being all, "No one tells me anything."
- The end! I love not being spoiled. But so many questions now! Is it the original Elizabeth or another Elizabeth? Good or bad? And when she said that now things would be easier without "them" breathing down their necks, did she mean the Replicators or Atlantis?
I don't know. But I'm excited to find out!

Date: 2008-01-05 07:24 pm (UTC)I'm still reeling over the Ronon response. That was just awesome. After watching the part 2 of the SciFi fan questions for jFlan, dHew and jMomo, and hearing how jMomo would maybe like Ronon to be a little more lighthearted, that just did it for me. It was perfect. I loved how John looked at him and he said "Don't look at me!" Oh insinuations!
I loved Carter standing up for Rodney... and the rest of her crew, but mostly Rodney.
On Thursday night, dad and I watched two episodes of season three, namely, "Irresponsible" and I told him how the one thing I hate about SGA is the credit spoilery, especially because in that particular episode it says "Robert Davi AS 'Kolya'" Thanks guys. Thanks for spoiling the big surprise. So it was excellent to not see Torri Higginson's name for once. Let's hope they keep that up. I literally did a double-take too. I had to rewind and watch again just because of the "omg what?!" and also to see if I missed something she said about the whole "them breathing down their necks" thing.
All I can think of is she's a RepliWeir manning a ship of renegade replicators, much like the Keller team from "This Mortal Coil"... hmm. We shall see.

Date: 2008-01-06 08:20 am (UTC)Yes! The whole "Don't look at me!" comment was great! And the fact that John looked at him first at all. Plus, at the time I wondered about Ronon not looking at all surprised. But after his little conversation with Teyla, it makes sense to me. Ronon's ways better at reading people than John and Rodney are.
I didn't even notice that her name wasn't in the credits! I wasn't paying much attention to the credits for once, but it's nice to know that they were being sneaky about it.
Mom and I are thinking Weir's connected with the renegade Replicators. But you never know.
