Well, it was nice to see the team being competent and together, but it was kind of disappointing that the Satedans seem to be into drinking and fighting. But maybe it's just that they have to deal with their our-whole-planet-was-destroyed issues and alcohol's the best way. Or something.
Overall, I liked the episode. But there were some cringe-worthy moments, at least for me. I was so glad that Rodney thinking he'd be put in charge didn't last the teaser and wasn't widely known. Because that was painful knowing that he wasn't going to get the position and I don't want people (John) to make fun of him for it. After the last two episodes, I also think that putting Rodney in charge of all of Atlantis would probably be a less than brilliant idea. It's not that he'd be a bad leader, just that I think in crisis situations he does better with someone telling him what to do. Or he does better with people pushing him or reigning him in, which works better if he can't pull the whole "I don't have to listen to you because I'm the boss" kind of thing.
And Sam in charge? So far I'm still fine with it. I liked that she held her ground with Ronon and John, but oh she doesn't know what she's gotten herself into. Denying them (well, John) things just does not work well. He'll do it anyway. But he handled himself well around her, and, like I said, was competent and in charge offworld. Good to see.
Anyway. Sam. And Rodney. That was also a little painful. And the fruit basket. I'll just think of it as another case of Norina and John's just trying to keep Rodney from getting anywhere with any woman. Yup. That's totally what that was about. (Now if only Rodney would get a clue.) So maybe he and Sam will sometimes be awkward, but now that he's got that really awkward beginning out of the way it won't be so bad. Maybe?
(This awkward talk makes me think of Star Trek: Voyager. I was watching an ep the other day and Barclay was on. At the time I was telling Mom how much I like him. She said, "Well, he's just a nicer version of Rodney. And you like Rodney." "Yes," I said. "There is that. But don't you mean he's the nicer, slightly less intelligent version?" And then we talked about his lack of people skills and how it's funny that he's the one that worked on the Doctor's people skills and, gee, that explains a lot.)
Hey! Teyla totally had stuff to do! She even kicked some ass! That was exciting. She even kicked Ronon's ass while blindfolded. Now that was cool.
Oh, and Sam and Teal'c were lovely. "Undomesticated equines could not stop me." I made high pitched noises. Man, I love Teal'c.
Teyla also gives the best WTF?-face.
Now, some random stuff:
- Ronon's painting. That was...special.
- The team in the bar. With the black and the leather. And the snark.
- "Where are your friends?" "They're right here." Oh, Ronon. And the way he went running for them as soon as he heard them firing! Admit it, you could never really leave Atlantis now.
It really kind of sucked to be him this week.
- That part where the two teams split up in the Wraith ship? And Ronon wished them luck? And John just ignored him? Whoa.
- Zelenka! Seriously. He's great. Loved watching him with Sam and Rodney. And everybody. I may or may not have had a moment of "OMG Ronon/Zelenka!!"
- TEYLA: Stay strong, Rodney!
McKAY: I'll try!
Gulp. And John getting zapped. Well, everybody getting zapped, but then Rodney not losing it and hiding before he got caught. He just does terrified oh so well.
I want next week's episode now.
Last night, Natasha and I got to watch Torchwood. "Countrycide," specifically, which was exciting because I'd told her about it when I saw it originally. "It's like The Hills Have Eyes! But in Wales!"
