I think it must be raining everywhere in Washington state today.

SGA - "Adrift"

Short reaction: Worked for me.

Long reaction: Totally worked for me. :) I was worried about this season. And, yes, I know it's still early and I have plenty more I can worry about, but the season opener did a lot to put some of that to rest. Part of it has to do with me having months to work up doubt about the show and the characters and my love for them. Then they come back and, no, I love them all as much as I ever did.

Randomly:

- Weir. I basically knew what was going to happen with Weir. I think I'd probably read about the nanites somewhere. Add to that the fact that SciFi shows previews for the first half of the season and Weir was definitely shown with hair and, y'know, not dead. I was surprised, however, at how much I was upset by the idea of losing her and the reality that it's going to happen. She hasn't been my favorite character, but I do like her and I just hadn't realized that I would miss her until this episode. But, as my mom pointed out, looks like they're setting it up so there's a possibility of her return.

- Sheppard. Man of mystery. Mom thinks we need to re-watch the episode and make a chart of all of the times Sheppard makes a face at someone and the camera holds on him. There was one point where he stared at McKay for what seemed like forever and the camera just stayed on him and then it cut to another scene. What was that about?

The scene with Keller about Weir not being the same person anymore if she pulls through. Such a sad face.

- McKay. Working on the city. Working on the nanites. Defying Sheppard. Apologizing. I really wish I had something to say about McKay. And more to say about Sheppard. But I find that with both of them it generally comes down to: ♥. Plus, I'm finding it difficult to talk about one without talking about the other. Oh, boys.

- The fight and the apology between Sheppard and McKay. There was some serious tension there and I totally loved it. And Rodney seeing that they needed to work together to get through the whole thing and realizing that was going to mean an apology. And Sheppard accepting it.

And then Sheppard's funny head-scratch. Mom thought he had a tic for a minute there.

- "You dumb this down anymore, you're going to get hit."

- "John." HEEEEEEEE! OMG. JOHN. Rodney called him John. I am, oh man, practically giddy with this. I'm going to blame the fact that I had to watch it with family and try not to look crazy when it actually happened. So the crazy-glee has been stored and gaining power since Friday night.

Question is, will he do it again?

- I really liked Keller. And McKay called her a genius. Heh.

- Lee! I mean, Carter, too! But I always thought Lee was funny.

- Zelenka! And Sheppard! And the jump. And then pushing on after being injured. Lots of love.

- Also lots of love for the amount of other people we got to see. There were people doing things and being important that weren't part of the main team! And some were even of nationalities other than American, Canadian, and Czech. Crazy.

- I loved McKay's finger-snapping. You don't even need to see him to know what that sound is.

- Ronon's thank you to Weir. Aww.

- Teyla was...present. They gave her things to do, but it wasn't like she had a major role.

Generally, I thought this was a pretty good episode. I did find the way it was put together a little, well, not odd exactly, but kind of choppy maybe. One thing would get explained. They'd fix it. Another thing explained. Another fix. It just seemed very "problem, solution, problem, solution" throughout. Which was fine, but in some ways it also felt as though it wasn't as polished as it could have been. Like they had a bunch of things they thought would be neat, specifically the bit with the asteroids, and decided to put it all in. Even though that (the asteroids) wasn't completely pointless, it still seemed, I don't know, like a mini-game in some space adventure. Which they did kind of compare it to.

But other than the feel of the ep sometimes, I can't really complain.

I'm not actually reading a single word behind the cut. My question: disappointed? enthralled? patient? What's your verdict?

Ha! Now was I right or was I right? There was no way you could tell me that you could possibly love the show less when new episodes started. You're just not that kind of fan, and that's how I like you.

I miss you :( Your 'rambling' about all things SGA, sci fi and every amazing show that ever existed keeps me sane.

You were right. :) They have got such a hold on me. And you have me pegged.

It's like not seeing someone for awhile and thinking, "They can't be as great as I remember them, right? There's no way." And then meeting up with them and realizing, no, they're just as fun as you thought they were.

Oh, Neesh. I have been spoiled for the fourth episode. I'm a just...flailing all over the place.

Aww. I miss you too!! :( Distances suck.

The whole problem-solution, problem-solution leads to McKay's two seconds of happiness before being hailed to the control room with John. Twice. It makes for better comedy. That sigh of relief for both McKay, and the audience, only to be *squashed* when they're summoned.

I liked "Adrift". I think it was a good season opener [and for once it was nice to see a season premiere that didn't deal with the Wraith. I'm really glad I had all these taped, otherwise the suspense between "Adrift" and "Lifeline" would kill me. I unfortunately don't have other shows to watch during the week. And also... the whole Weir thing - I have the same reaction you did. I like her, she's not my absolute favorite, but she's pretty dang awesome. The idea of her not being around made me a little sad. And now seeing the end-of-"Adrift"-preview-for-"Lifeline" [which I'm watching right now] makes it seem like yes, she's done for, and won't be around for awhile.... especially like I asked in the email... no name in the credits?

Also, I think my next goal is to purchase all of SG-1 [the $250 box set] and watch them.

I liked "Adrift." It was a good, solid opener. And the more I think about it, the more it works for me.

And, yes, Weir isn't going to be a regular.

I'll probably post about the most recent ep ("Reunion") tomorrow. Have to work think about some of that.

I want the SG-1 complete boxed set so much. Which is stupid because I own all 10 seasons. But it's so shiny! And there are other extra-thingies. Stupid TV.
