Weekend Stuff
May. 13th, 2007 08:37 pmTonight's fortune cookie from Snappy Dragon: You will read some information that will help you.
It seemed strangely appropriate. Considering I have two papers due tomorrow (and one on Tuesday), I'd better read some information that will be helpful to me.
Saw Spiderman 3. The most exciting bit? Tris's bloody nose half-way through. Which isn't to say that the movie was boring (though it was long). But when the person next to you is bleeding, you have to pay a little more attention to that.
As for the movie itself, well, I enjoyed it, but didn't think it was as good as the first one. Or the second one. I do enjoy the slightly more complicated villains. Kept wondering where the women villains/superheroes were though.
I don't really want to say I had complaints. Some negatives, but no real complaints. They fit a lot of stuff into that movie though. And Mary Jane was, well, less understanding than I was hoping she would be. She knew who Peter was going into their relationship. Not being in her position, I have to say cut the guy some slack! (Pun?) He's got to save lives before he can comfort you over a bad review.
Peter also totally stole Peter Petrelli's hair. It was funny. Kay leaned across Tris to ask if he was wearing eye-liner.
And what was with the whole kiss with Gwen? I can complain about MJ being a little selfish, but what was he doing? Clearly not thinking.
Harry was sweet. And I totally called him dying. I knew that if he showed up at the building in the end, he would bite it simply because he told them he'd die for either of them.
Going back to the whole cramming things into one movie...I wish that there had been more with the Sandman. More of who he was and who he became and his daughter and things. They really could have made two movies out of this. I just wanted slightly more out of the characters I guess.
It was fun (even with the real life drama). I'd say see it.
I also finished reading Madame Bovary. I knew Emma was going to die, and I knew she was going to drag Charles and Berthe down, but I did not know Charles was going to actually die too. Though a bit dim and unobservant sometimes, Charles was a decent man and I liked him damn it. Emma just frustrated me.
On the whole, though, I enjoyed the book.
I think my essay for tomorrow is going to focus on the idea that Emma was never ever going to be happy with what she had and who she got. We'll see how that goes.
Bought Bleak House yesterday. Decided I wanted to read it before I watched it. Kay and I were talking about the mini-series (she's rewatching, I've only seen a random 20 minutes), specifically Mr. Guppy. Then I had to show her some Torchwood because I couldn't remember Burn Gorman's name and she'd only ever seen him with funny Guppy hair. John Barrowman got an immediate "ooh" out of her, which was quite fun.
Gateworld has pictures up from last Friday's SGA ep "The Game." Specifically, this one makes me grin. As does this one.

Date: 2007-05-14 06:35 am (UTC)I know I can never get past, like, the first eight chapters of Sense & Sensibility. And I love Jane Austen! But, man, do I find that book dull.

Date: 2007-05-14 06:46 am (UTC)Oh! Went and saw Hot Fuzz again tonight with my dad. I really do adore the movie. I thought my dad wouldn't like it as much - he laughed a lot at the beginning, but it sort of thinned out. I thought the middle to the end was the funniest, so I figured he wasn't liking it. But when we left, he said it was an excellent movie. Next step is to make him watch Shaun of the Dead.

Date: 2007-05-14 07:04 am (UTC)Speaking of actors, Jeremy from Sports Night is going to be on SG-1. I'm excited.
Everyone should see Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. Glad to hear you both liked it!

Date: 2007-05-14 08:13 pm (UTC)When I saw Jewel Staite was in the episode, I figured she'd end up being a major episode-character - but after choosing that episode on the main menu screen with the blue-faced girl Wraith, I knew it had to be her.
Oh, and hey - did you get that last excerpt from the story? I know you're busy, but I never actually found out if you got it or not. If you did, no rush on getting it back, I's just curious.

Date: 2007-05-15 12:35 am (UTC)Yes, I got the last excerpt. It's flag and marked as unread in my inbox (along with other important things to respond to). Since I got some bigger things turned in today, expect a reply by the end of the week. Sorry it's taken so long!
I may even have something of my own to send along your way. Still don't mind Shep/McKay, right?

Date: 2007-05-15 12:58 am (UTC)Oh holy eff. Did I really just say that?
Of course Shep/McKay is fine. :)
BTW, <3 the saturation on the icon you used on the comment above mine.

Date: 2007-05-15 01:25 am (UTC)No, actually, Carson/Rodney not so bad. (It's how I started! Srsly. "How much more out can you get?") Carson/John? Weird. I'd have to make WTH? faces at you.
Glad it's fine. :) Because it's really all I can write.
I can't take credit for the icon, but thanks anyway. I love the blues of your Carson/Rodney smooch.
