SGA - "Echoes"

Let's just get a couple of things out of the way first.

1) ::flail::

2) Could John and Rodney be more married?

This episode was...everything I love about Stargate Atlantis. Everyone was in character and helpful (except for Kate, arguably) and funny and silly and smart and shiny shiny shiny.

Interactions I loved? Well, John and Rodney are a given. Zelenka and Ronon surprised me. Ronon and Teyla either are doing it or should be doing it. If they were going to go romantic with any of the characters (and this is not counting the fan-hope of slash), I'd be totally fine with Ronon and Teyla. Did I read somewhere, though, that someone was going to make a romantic kind of gesture to Teyla and she was going to turn them down because she's already seeing someone? I could very well be making that up, but I think it may have been in an interview.

I want more personal information about these characters, mostly what they do in their free time when we don't see them in eps.

Although from this ep it's pretty obvious that John and Rodney spend their free time together. I liked how in basically the first half every time Rodney showed up he was either waiting for John or looking for John. And how adorable and excited was he with his whale? ("They were terrible at naming things. I've just called it 'whale' for now.")

Specific scenes I loved:

- The whole bit on the balcony (which is really very pretty).

McKAY: Hey. How long've you been standing there?
SHEPPARD: Hour or so.
McKAY: What? Why didn't you say anything, I feel like a - Oh, it's the kidding.

"Wow, look at all that water." And then the looks on both of their faces when the whale surfaces. They're like kids and they just look so happy and relaxed and it's wonderful.

What I do kind of want to know, though, is whether or not Rodney's been keeping an eye out for the whale since "Grace Under Pressure" (doesn't feel like a year ago) or if he heard someone (do they have marine biologists there?) mention it and then went to look. I like the idea that Rodney's been keeping an eye out because we never got much of a follow-up (do we ever?) of the events in GUP and it'd be interesting to see Rodney dealing with that.

- Rodney's excitement for the marine life of Atlantis. "Did you know that there was a lobster-like crustacean down there the size of a Buick?" And John trying not to laugh at him.

- John being so very upset that Rodney named it "Sam" and thinks of it has his savior and not John and Zelenka.

- SHEPPARD: That guy's the size of a football field.
McKAY: A Canadian football field.

And then John taking Rodney to see his whale up-close. Aw.

- John's delayed "What?" in the infirmary. I laughed so very hard at that small, small thing.

- SHEPPARD: Canadian football league's a joke. Celine Dion is overrated. Zelenka is smarter than you are!
McKAY: Hey! I found mention of a bio-lab in the database. Ancient scientists used it to study animal life. We should check it out.
SHEPPARD: Okay, Meredith.

John's so bored without Rodney to really talk to. He doesn't like being ignored.

- The yelling. Heh. And Rodney's military hand signals. And John's basic look of "Rodney, seriously?"

- John just sitting there, watching Rodney work.

WEIR: How's he doing?
SHEPPARD: I don't know. He's taking awhile. A lot longer than he usually takes.
McKAY: He can hear you, you know.
SHEPPARD: Yeah, we know.

- The whole whale-thing. With the language and the teaching and the genetic memory. And Elizabeth getting to show off her smarts.

- Ronon and Teyla in the infirmary.

- McKAY: A lot of animals, whales, dolphins -
ZELENKA: Pigeons.
McKAY: - are effected by the tiniest anomalies in the magnetosphere. It's as if their internal compasses are somehow - Pigeons?
ZELENKA: Yeah, homing pigeons. I used to raise them before coming here. We used to consult solar charts before our pigeon races.

- SHEPPARD: I think we have a plan.
McKAY: We do?

McKAY: This is not a good plan.
SHEPPARD: Sure it is.

- Zelenka and Ronon.

- "He saved your life, now you saved his. You're even."

Did John smack Rodney on the ass back? Because I swear I heard someone smack something.

So, yeah. Happy panda over here. It's such a SHINY show.

Now that I've allowed myself that, I should get to work. Or do other semi-productive things and then get to work. First we have to walk down to Blockbuster so Natasha can buy Superman Returns (!) and then I've got an ep of Heroes to catch up on. THEN I will work on Philosophy.
