Oh, Entertainment
Aug. 5th, 2006 12:01 amGoing to Seattle in the morning. I should be in bed, but there's some music stuff that I want to take care of first. I was going to add stuff to my MP3 player, but just as I was typing up the Stargate stuff I could have sworn I heard a scream from some place outside. Dad, asleep in the living room, suggests it was a coyote. I hope so, but I think I'll limit my time in the kitchen with my back to the window.
I didn't get to watch the episodes as they aired because Heather came over and we spent the evening chatting. It was really nice. I don't know what my problem is the rest of the time because I really do like her. Hmm.
SG-1 - "Insiders"
Well. First off, I like Barrett and they did him wrong. I'm not even talking about the Ba'al's using him. That's...kind of understandable in Stargate 'verse. What bothered me was his completely out-of-character outburst in the mess with Sam. What was that about? She should have realized something was up with him right there.
I've been trying to work his outburst in with his brainwashing, and it kind of works, but it leaves me a little cold. He's got this subconscious role that he has to play and if Sam's keeping him from doing what he needs to do, I could see him get a bit snappy and be crazy. But honestly? When he snapped all I could think was, "Is he not who we think he is? Goa'uld!" But no. And then at the end he seemed a little off, too. I don't know. It just didn't sit right with me.
But there was stuff I liked about this ep. Particularly Mitchell asking Landry if Vala could go with them and Landry asking if he could keep her under control. "Sir, Carter and I are the same rank, Teal'c's an alien, Jackson's a civilian, I've never been in control." And Landry's, "Tell me about it."
Vala herself was awesome. Getting the attention of the Jaffa (and, really, how hot is she in the field uniform?) so that they'd call for back-up and then slipping SG-1 up to the ship as the back-up was shipped down. That was pretty slick. Loved her and Sam going off together. Way to let the women do stuff, show.
Otherwise? Ba'al is maybe my favorite Goa'uld. The "let me take care of some of your Ba'als" jokes were amusing for awhile, but those are going to get old (are they already?). There was lots of Walter randomly around. He even laughed at Mitchell's kind of lame joke. "Two strikes, three Ba'als." Hell, I laughed at his lame joke.
Mom thinks this will be part of what gets Jack back on the show, the fact that he had all of those addresses in his head. I agreed at the time, but now that I think about it, isn't all of that gone from his head now? He'd probably be helpful in some capacity though. Basically, I'm just starting to look forward to Jack's brief return.
SGA - "Sateda"
Let me just say GUH and get that out of the way right off the bat. The team is hot. The new uniforms make them hotter.
Also, Sheppard's hair was shorter and I was distracted enough by that and the slight difference it made to be completely surprised when McKay got SHOT IN THE ASS WITH AN ARROW. "That did not just happen!" OMG, Rodney, yes it did! And then Sheppard was right there helping him to the DHD and I was just pleased by that. John's a goodboyfriend team leader.
Rodney on too much morphine. Hee. "He looks like you, but with messier hair. I lost him. And the pretty lady and the caveman."
"That's my ass."
And then the smiley face boxers!! Mom pointed them out. She's like, "Wait...look at his boxers!" I think she's got me pegged.
Rodney's a trooper. Really, he may complain a lot, but he got shot in the ASS and he's standing around talking and helping and things. Without mentioning the wound that much. That's something. Loved him working spread out on the floor of the lab. And John sitting cross-legged next to him. "Must be a pain in the ass." "How long did it take you to come up with that?" "Longer than I'd care to admit."
Yeah, Mom called basically every scene that I'd love.
Going into the episode I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it because I wasn't sure how I'd handle a Ronon-centric episode. I mean I like Ronon, but there hasn't really been a lot of focus on him in the past. Anyway, Mom had said she thought SGA was particularly good tonight, so I figured I'd probably like it. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I did enjoy it. There was a nice balance, I felt, between Ronon on Sateda, Ronon's memories of Sateda, and getting Ronon back. It was nice to get some background about him.
We even got some, well, not really background but...Okay, scratch that. I was going to say that we got some insight into Sheppard in that scene with Teyla on board the Daedalus, but it's really nothing that fans haven't already picked up about him. Especially given his philosophy of "leave no man behind." But, oh, that was a nice scene.
Rodney and Carson. They're fun, aren't they? And Ronon hugged Carson. And Rodney flew the puddlejumper despite his injured ass. And Sheppard looked fondly at him and I was happy.
