annundriel: ([wat] The More I See You)

About a month ago, [livejournal.com profile] ginnith prompted me to write something involving schmoop and rain, among other things. She ended up with two bits of NCIS and one bit of SGA. But this was the first thing that came to mind at the prompt since I had a sketch of the scene already.

And now it even has a title! I'm not doing so well with titles lately.

Thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] ginnith and [livejournal.com profile] trademybike.

Danny/Martin.

Sleepless

It’s after midnight when Martin wakes up, sleep to awareness in under two seconds. He’s not sure what woke him – Danny’s still asleep beside him, unmoving and quiet – but he can just hear the susurration of rain on the pavement outside, the drip drip drip of it where it hits his window after collecting. Lying there, he listens to it; first with his eyes closed, trying to find sleep again, then staring up at the ceiling when he realizes that right now sleep is apparently not an option.

Martin does his best not to wake Danny as he slips out of bed and pads across the room to the door.

Without turning on any lights, he goes to the kitchen and drinks some water, tries to settle his mind. Stands there in his pajama pants and t-shirt, feet cold on the linoleum. He’ll be tempted to use Danny to warm them up once he decides to try for sleep again, but he’ll do his best to resist.

Wandering back into the living room, Martin’s drawn to the window by the light filtering in through the raindrops caught on the glass. He stands there watching them pulled by gravity; down, down until they pool together on the window’s ledge. He’s not sure how long he stands there, staring out into the night, when he feels the air behind him move, change, and Martin doesn’t have to turn around to know that Danny’s right behind him.

There’s no hesitation when Danny closes the space between them, wraps his arms around Martin’s waist and pulls him close. Danny’s chest is warm against his back, hands and arms a soothing presence where they press against him. Martin’s hands slide along the length of Danny’s forearms until he finds his hands and holds on.

“You okay?” Danny asks, voice soft and rough with sleep, breath tickling the hairs on the back of his neck.

Martin looks out the window, watches the rain soak the street outside, thinks about cases gone well and cases gone bad, shots fired and shots missed, first chances and second chances and all of the things that lead up to him standing just there, staring out at the rain, Danny warm around him.

“Yeah,” he says. “Yeah, I’m fine.” He breathes deep once, twice. “Let’s go back to bed.”

He feels Danny’s lips against the back of his neck curve into a smile before pressing a quick kiss into his skin. Martin can’t help but smile a little as Danny tugs him toward the bedroom.
