Three Due South Ficlets

This January, I've been trying to write something creative every day. So far, I've succeeded. Some of it hasn't come to anything, and some of it has turned into drabbles or little ficlets. I've got three that I'm happy with, so I thought I'd post them.

All of them are Due South and all of them are Kowalski/Fraser, in intent if not in actual action. As [livejournal.com profile] ginnith pointed out to me, there's a bit of a running theme on looking and seeing here. Completely accidental. Thanks go to her and [livejournal.com profile] trademybike.

Don't Look

Ray doesn’t let himself think about the way Fraser sometimes watches him. Because down that road? Craziness. And he’s got enough crazy in his life already, thanks to Fraser.

So he doesn’t think about it, ignores it as best he can when Fraser’s eyes turn soft with concern or warm with what Ray thinks might be affection. The spark that appears when Fraser’s sense of humor comes out to play, teasing Ray back? Ray doesn’t notice. He pretends that he doesn’t see any of it; that it’s nothing and Fraser never said yes when Ray asked, “Do you find me attractive?”

Nope, Ray doesn’t think about it.

Even if he really wants to.

Whiteout

Falling from a plane into the snow—Turtles, Ray? Really? You fell for that?—he knows something must be broken because he can feel something crack and shift inside of him at the sight of Fraser’s face.

“Did you break something in your face?” he asked, cold and disoriented. Lashing out at Fraser because in that moment he knew—he knew—Fraser wouldn’t be coming back with him. Ray hadn’t realized how unhappy Fraser was in Chicago until that moment. He’d never seen that look on Fraser’s face, not once.

Fraser was home. Ray was just along for the ride.

A Better View

Fraser lights up in Canada. He lights up like it’s Christmas morning and he just came downstairs to find that bike he’d been asking Santa for tucked under the tree. Lights up like birthdays and snow days and summer vacations all rolled into one. Like it’s the best thing since Chinese take-out and pizza delivery and cable TV because it’s home.

And the more time Ray spends with him up there, the more he thinks Fraser might just be on to something. Who needs the corner market open all night when he’s got Fraser, lit up like the Northern Lights?

Wow. Once again wonderful. Ray is kind of an angsty guy at times.

Also, I like the change. Did you do this recently?

[identity profile] annundriel.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. Ray's got some issues. Sometime I will finish the Fraser POV fic I'm working on and air out his issues. Before that, I think I'll try to finish the porn. Because who wants angst all the time? Plus, good break from the newspaper.

I just changed the layout last night, actually! Right after I posted. I wanted something that was a little easier to read. :)

::squee:: I love these. Also, I like the layout/color change. :)

Yea! Thank you!

I needed a layout that didn't leave my eyes going, "Really? You want your vision to go down the drain?"

Great drabbles :D

'Who needs the corner market open all night when he’s got Fraser, lit up like the Northern Lights?'
Oh that's a great line.

Thank you! :)

(stumbles in)

Hey, these are cool. I like the progression of the three, and the bit at the very end, where we get the feeling Ray honestly likes Canada after all, and that Fraser is here and happy as well is just the best lucky convergence ever. :)

Thanks!

the best lucky convergence ever

Yes, totally. Turns out they've both got a good thing going.

Ray knows a good thing when he sees it. :)

Thank you!
