Ark of Truth
There was nothing on TV tonight, so Mom and I finally watched The Ark of Truth.
Basically, I enjoyed it a lot. But I did think it had some issues.
First, though, the good. I am a dork. A big, big dork. Not that this is news. When they cut to "present day" and there was the shot of Daniel and the Stargate music, oh, I couldn't stop grinning. My eyes may even have gotten a little, um, watery. But only because of the contacts, I swear! It's just...I forgot sometimes how much I love certain characters or stories or teams when I haven't seen them for a while. When they return it's always, "Oh, there you are."
Apparently Daniel Jackson is one of those characters that does that to me. Also the rest of SG-1. Just the show in general. Because even though the Ori storyline has not been my favorite ever, I love the team. Even when I have issues with them.
I was also really happy to see Tomin again. I like Tim Guinee a lot. (And really recommend Sweet Land, btw.) And I always found his relationship with Vala and then with the Ori interesting. As well as his questioning of the Book of Origin and the discussions of interpretation he was always trying to bring to the table.
Hmm. Really enjoyed seeing the more secondary characters, the ones that populate the universe behind SG-1. Was creeped out by the Replicator/human hybrid-thing. When the Replicators broke into his cell, I wondered what they would do with organic material. I've always kind of wondered what happened to people when they got overrun by Replicators. Marrick kind of deserved it. Actually, what I wanted to see was Sam kick him in the balls like Ziva did to the bad guy on the last NCIS I watched. Not that he was actively pointing a gun at SG-1, but, geeeez. What a dope.
But anyway. Like I said, there were some issues. The whole time I was watching, or at least the first half of it, all I could think was, "Exposition, exposition, exposition." I felt like there was a lot of standing around and talking, telling us what was going on, instead of that exposition unfolding in a more, hmm, organic kind of way. If that makes any sense. There just seemed to be a lot of action sequences followed by what happened being explained. Which is fine, just not always the best way to do things.
Didn't take away my enjoyment of it.
Oh! What I really loved was Sam visiting Cam in the infirmary in the end. Hee. I can just see, like, Sam coming over with beer and them getting pizza and just chilling. Or working on engines or something. (Wasn't there hints of Sam and Siler doing something like that?) They're just very...buddy. And while Sam's got Vala to do girly things with, Cam's kind of there for other stuff. Or the whole team just shows up and they all sit around drinking beer and watching movies. Oh, but then Sam with the recall and the macaroons and the hitting him where he's injured and then hesitating on his cheek. Awww. You guys.
So, yeah, in the end I'm left with a sense of "YEA TEAM."
Meanwhile, you know what I love? I love that scene in "Hide & Seek" where John pushes Rodney off the balcony. Do we ever see him smile like that again? He's just so excited and eager and gollygeewhizwow open as he runs down the steps. Not to mention how adorable Rodney is. Plus, there's the whole, "Oh, believe me, that's not the first thing we tried." "I shot him. In the leg." Then the little "in-vuln-erable."
Oh, man. See? This is what I was talking about with SG-1. I don't watch SGA for a while and I forget how much I love them. Which is maybe a good thing. Distance myself and then come back and enjoy it all again.
