The lovely [ profile] cautionzombies and myself are in the process of creating a joint writing journal for various upcoming projects. It's very exciting! Before we do anything, though, we'd like to have a name for it.

Can we get some input?

[Poll #1726647]

GUYS. [ profile] ember_firedrake wrote me Steve/Danny! It has made me ridiculously happy.

Check it out! The Courtship and Wooing of Steve McGarrett. Danny realizes he is attracted to Steve, and decides to do something about it.

These guys. They KILL ME.

I saw True Grit again, this time with [ profile] sdrohc_ratiug, my dad, and - you'll never believe this! - my brother! I invited him and he said yes! As [ profile] sdrohc_ratiug said, ""I can't believe I'm sitting next to your brother. It's like seeing a unicorn. And then going to the movies with if."

The movie remains awesome. There was more of an audience this time, and they were more responsive to the film. Except for the one lady in the row in front of us who dozed off and snored a wee bit.

I also watched the first part of Downton Abbey on Masterpiece Classics with my mom. It was fun playing, "Hey! That Chick/Dude Looks Familiar!" I also really enjoyed it. That sort of thing is right up my alley.

Tomorrow I'm supposed to get Easy A from Netflix, which I am looking forward to. I've gotten back into watching Avatar: The Last Airbender. Don't know why I paused in the first place; it's such a brilliant show. I guess at least by putting it on hold since October I've managed to draw out the length of the series? Sort of? No? Oh well.

Today was a good start to the new year. Better than the start to 2010 anyway.

Went to town with my mom and [ profile] sdorhc_ratiug. We saw Black Swan which was...

Spoilers under the cut )

Short answer? I found it kind of meh. Which is sad.

Last Tuesday, though, I saw True Grit with my parents and LOVED IT. Mattie Ross is my new hero. And the girl who plays her, Hailee Steinfeld, is amazing. She's up there sharing the screen with Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin, and all I wanted to do was watch her.

True Grit I definitely would recommend.

Anyway. So we did Black Swan and then we went to a late lunch at a place called McGlinns. I had their Greek Pesto wood-fire pizza. It was SO GOOD. The place was [ profile] sdrohc_ratiug's recommendation, and it was an excellent one. Then we did some shopping and came home. It was a very, very good day.

Now I'm home with my electric blanket (it's like 7F outside), catching up with writing, and listening to the Tron: Legacy OST (which is AWESOME). Good times, good times.
annundriel: ([spn] Dean)
Watched tonight's episode with [ profile] olivelavonne, who has been here since Wednesday. It was good times.

I'm going to forget to say something here, I just know it.

Spoilers for the 6.07 promo included.

I was on a roadtrip this past weekend so I wasn't sure I'd get to watch this. Especially since we were going out to dinner with long unseen family members. But we were back at our hotel early and [ profile] sdrohc_ratiug and I hunkered down and enjoyed ourselves.

I'll post roadtrip pics later.

I feel like this is kind of a half-assed reaction post. ::shrug:: I've had a very long day.

Supernatural - 6.05 )

Look, an Inception post with nothing of any particular import!

Going to see Inception for the third time today. Dragging [ profile] sdrohc_ratiug along with me. If she hates it, I WILL CRY.

I now have two Arthur/Eames fics started. Um. Um. They are TWO HOT GUYS IN SUITS two fascinating characters, can you blame me? Here is the only picture I have uploaded of the two of them. Behind the scenes. Doesn't matter. I still want to smush them together in various ways. Hard. Even more so when Arthur's got the three-piece suit going on.

God, I have it bad.

It's embarrassing my urge to call everyone "darling." Same thing happens when I watch The Incredibles, though, so maybe it's not too bad. ;) (I also slip into some accents if I watch too much of something. Power of suggestion, my mind is open to it.)

Meanwhile, I keep listening to the final track of the movie's score. You know how sometimes a theme will just get in your head - haha ideas are parasites - and not let you go? That's essentially what has happened here. It kills me, so good, every time.

"Time" - Inception OST - Hans Zimmer.

If you follow the link to YouTube, I'd suggest not scrolling to the comments in case of spoilers.
annundriel: ([spn] Team Free Will)
The other night, [ profile] olivelavonne and I spent a good deal of time on the phone discussing SPN. (Mostly it was about the finale and what we'd like to see next, and partly it was her talking me off the ledge re:fic.)

But she pointed out something about Chuck.

I am having a not so happy day.

01. Adam Rex's The True Meaning of Smekday, which I already recced over here.

Here is a moment from when Gratuity, the protagonist, first meets J.Lo:

"Then...then...I will have onto shoot with my gun!"

I jumped back, palms up. In all the excitement, I hadn't thought of that. My eyes darted to where his hips would be, if he had any. I frowned.

"You don't even have a gun!"

"Yes! YES!" he shouted, nodding furiously, as though I'd somehow proven his point. "NO GUN! So I will have to...have to..."

His whole body trembled.

I fell into a row of shelves. That one was new to me.

"Shoot forth the lasers?"

"You can do that?"

The Boov hesitated. His eyes quivered. After a few seconds he replied, "Yes."

I squinted. "Well, if you shoot your eye lasers, then I'll have no choice but to...EXPLODE YOUR HEAD!"

"You humans can not to ex--"

"We can! We can too! We just don't much. It's considered rude."

The Boov thought about this for a moment.

"Then...we are needing a...truce. You are not to exploding heads, and I will to not do my DEVASTATING EYE LASERS."

"Okay," I agreed. "Truce."

02. Misha Fucking Collins:

Click. It gets bigger. ;)

This picture still does things to me: )

Oh, and how about that one really distracting gif, too: )

03. DiNozzo/McGee, and NCIS' recent episode "Guilty Pleasures", which, I swear to God, had to have been the showrunners saying, "Here, Michael Weatherly, run with your 'DiNozzo and McGee are in lurve' idea."

OMG. That first scene? I almost literally flailed myself off the bed. Guys, just sleep together already. You'll be happier after, I promise.

04. My ringtone, since I got my iPhone last summer, is the beginning of the Bad Horse Chorus from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog. (Up until "'s high-ho Silver! Signed Bad Horse...")

05. [ profile] trademybike sent me CDs of the band Elbow. I've only listened to one so far, but I really like them. I love it when people send me tunes.
annundriel: ([spn] As Far as I Can Go)
01. The other day [ profile] sdrohc_ratiug were texting each other what it would be like if Eric Kripke did Buffy and Joss Whedon did Supernatural. Then there were crossovers. It was entertaining.

[ profile] annundriel: If SPN were done by Whedon, Dean and Cas would make out.
[ profile] sdrohc_ratiug: Haha it's true. But he would also break everyone's heart and EVERYONE WOULD DIE.

It's a win-lose situation.

02. Just want to send a big thank you to [ profile] wynna_pendragon for the v-gift! I've been in a bit of a rut lately and it totally made my day. <3

03. Writing briefs is not my favorite thing to do ever.

04. Finished reading Joe Hill's short story collection 20th Century Ghosts. Really enjoyed it. Got it from the library and may have to buy my own copy. I'm still trying to figure out all of the implications of "My Father's Mask." (A story which you should not read in the middle of the night because you may be woken up an hour later by the dog barking and the sound of doors opening and closing and start thinking about how in-the-middle-of-nowhere you are and people in masks and so-on.)

05. There is no 5.
annundriel: ([actors] Yea!)

I'm impressed with the DVD packaging. Nicely done, HBO.

Also started the book.

Meanwhile, [ profile] olivelavonne and I marathoned Southland season one today. It was awesome.

This post brought to you by shows filled with competent badasses that I love.

[ profile] sdrohc_ratiug and I went out for pho and bubble tea. On the way home we took O'Sullivan Dam instead of the freeway. The sky was interesting all day, but once we got out on the dam, we just had to stop for pictures.

I don't think I've ever seen the water that still and clear before. It was kind of amazing.

Last week I was telling [ profile] ginnith that I was obsessing heavily over Kris Allen. She told me she wasn't that familiar with him (this has since been rectified) but that he seemed like a cuddly little monkey.

Now when I think of him, my brain goes, "Kris Allen, Cuddle Monkey."

I don't even entirely know what it means, but it makes me smile.
annundriel: ([es] Meet Me in Montauk)
The other day I was looking for title-inspiration for "whatever we lose" and my eyes happened to fall on my copy of Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse, which I read a couple of years ago in Modernism in Art and Literature. It contains a quote that spoke to me so clearly at the time I was amazed:

She could see it so clearly, so commandingly, when she looked: it was when she took her brush in hand that the whole thing changed. It was in that moment's flight between the picture and her canvas that the demons set on her who often brought her to the verge of tears and made this passage from conception to work as dreadful as any down a dark passage for a child. Such she often felt herself--struggling against terrific odds to maintain her courage; to say: "But this is what I see; this is what I see," and so to clasp some miserable remnant of her vision to her breast, which a thousand forces did their best to pluck from her.
- p. 22-23

I get a lot of things out of that passage, and I understand it through my own various experiences involving fear of creative failure, that horrible moment between having an idea and pulling out a blank page to make that idea something more than just a thought, an image in your head. Fear of creative rejection, dismissal.

To borrow a quote from one of my other favorite things, The History Boys, that moment in reading for me was one of these:

"The best moments in reading are when you come across something--a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things--which you had thought special and particular to you. Now here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out and taken yours."

I think I've gained a lot more confidence since then. I'm not afraid to start things much anymore for fear they won't live up to the vision in my head. Though I'm sure [ profile] ginnith would have interesting things to say on my various writing related neuroses and how the have/haven't changed. She's been there through it all, the lucky lady.

Speaking of writing, back to editing I go.
annundriel: ([spn] Exciting!)
I think so!

I joined [ profile] sdrohc_ratiug while she ran errands today. And we got pho. Oh, pho. It'd been more than a week. I'm surprised I wasn't going into withdrawal. The only thing better than having them set the bowl in front of you and getting that first smell is taking the first bite. It's crazy how much I love this stuff.

Why else is Thursday good? Not only is Project Runway on (I enjoyed last week's premiere), SUPERNATURAL IS BACK. IN ALL OF IT'S APOCALYPTIC, TRENCHCOATED, BATMAN VOICED, FLOPPY HAIRED GLORY.

Also, it is the mid-January and it's like spring outside. What up, central WA?

01. At the library, I helped a couple find sample questions for the test for US citizenship. Felt awesome after.

02. Agreed to sub three days of middle school PE in a row. OMG AM I A GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT??

Although the times I've done single days have been fine.

03. Southland premiered on TNT. REALLY enjoyed it. The permiere was commercial free and I was surprised that my attention never wandered. Pleasantly surprised. Very much looking forward to seeing more. I'm hoping I won't miss too many because of meetings (at least two a month, stupid city council). But I suppose that's what the internet is for after all.

On a shallow note, I appear to have a thing for Ben McKenzie's profile. ::shrug:: I think I always did. Something about his nose. (I never really watched The OC, but I enjoyed Junebug.) And, of course, Michael Cudlitz is in a very solid way. Mmmmmmmmmm. I like his profile, too.

And, omg, they're good. That scene outside the house? "You're a cop because you don't know how not to be one." Whoa.

God. I am REALLY EXCITED for this now. I mean, I was sure I would enjoy it, but I'm close to making grabby hands and pleading, "More now? Pleeeeease?"

04. NCIS )

05. [ profile] ginnith did a fantastic thing and reminded me that with no Big Bang, I can have fun with the Porn Battle and not feel guilty. So I can go back to what I do the best the most: writing short, dirty fic.

06. PORN BATTLE. Coming up! I swear, porn battle time is my favorite time. I only wrote two for the last one, three for the one before. My first attempt (porn-wise and battle-wise), Any Other Name, is still one of my personal favorite of the things I have written.

This started as "I'm bored, what shall I do?? E-mail [ profile] sdrohc_ratiug Dean/Cas-related silliness!" And then she said, "Dooo it," when I thought about posting. So. Posting.

There are 11 .gifs behind the cut. Beware loading.

I did not make these .gifs, they have come to me through the glory of the internet. But I now present to you...

I have learned a great deal from novels. Some of it is even true.
- Dean Koontz, Brother Odd (p. 33)

I love these Odd Thomas books.

Today there was pho and coffee, ficcing and excellent company, hanging out in a weirdly Seattle-like bistro/market. And now I am comfortable and warm and someone bought me Little Dorrit on DVD. Life is good.
annundriel: ([cplng] Could Use a Drink)
My plans for today consist of:

- library!
- fic posting!
- being the only one in the house awake at midnight! Probably!

Exclamation mark!

Um. Anyway. I never do anything for New Year's. I am just not that exciting.

Although...I do have those bottles of rum, tequila, and amaretto [ profile] ginnith gave me...maybe I'll actually crack those open and have a drink of some kind.

I am maybe a little excited about the fic. I was able to take a lot of things from another piece that I thought was going to die a lonely, quiet death on my harddrive. It's always nice when you can save the good bits of something.
